JOB DETAILS:
2 Hardware and Network Technician
Job purpose
Designing and installing well-functioning computer networks, connections, and cabling. Performing troubleshooting of system failures and identifying bottlenecks to ensure the long-term efficiency of a network. Testing and configuring software and maintaining and repairing hardware and peripheral devices.

Main accountabilities
1. Designing and installing well-functioning computer networks, connections, and cabling.
2. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
3. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
4. Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware.
5. Design, implement, and support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, and remote access VPNs conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
6. Update new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
7. Support and maintain computer systems and peripherals by installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware.
8. Monitor network performance, optimize server capacity, and secure networks and data.
9. Repair network errors and perform network upgrades.
10. Evaluate network performance and find ways of improvement.

Key knowledge and attributes
• Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent physical condition and flexibility to work long shifts and overnight.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Experience
• Minimum of two (2) years of proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
• Expert knowledge of core routing and switching design principles, best practices, and related technologies.
• Excellent hardware troubleshooting.
• Extensive application support with network monitoring and analysis software.

Qualifications
1. Full Grade 12 Certificate with credit or better in Maths and English.
2. Diploma in Computer Science from a recognized institution.
3. Network or Hardware certification will be an added advantage.
