UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
Context:
Background Information
The Southern African region is historically characterised by dynamic human mobility that contributes to countries’ economies and individual livelihoods. Migration has long been a feature of the social and economic fabric of Zambia, with Zambia being a country of origin, transit and destination for male, female and child migrants from neighbouring countries and beyond. While migration dynamics are complex, there are significant opportunities for migration to be an enabler of sustainable development in Zambia. In its Seventh National Development Plan
(7NDP: 2017 – 2021) Plan, the Government of the Republic of Zambia has prioritized the development of a comprehensive national migration policy for effective migration management.
IOM Zambia is supporting the Government on the development of a national migration policy.
Supervision
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the Programme
Officer in the Migration & Development Unit (MDU), the successful candidate will support the Programme Officer in coordinating the development of a national migration policy in Zambia in line with the agreed roadmap. .

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Assist the MDU in coordinating ongoing work related to the development of a national migration policy in Zambia through, among others, supporting the coordination and hosting of workshops, seminars and conferences on migration governance and policy in line with project workplans.
2. Coordinate the Migration Policy Technical Working Group and the Core Drafting team and provide secretariat support to ensure timely implementation of the policy development roadmap.
3. Assist in conducting migration policy research and drafting of research papers, policy briefs on migration policy and contribute to the policy development process in Zambia.
4. Assist in the preparation of information sheets, data on migration trends in the region for internal and external distribution and stockpiling of policy related initiatives.
5. Assist in developing migration governance capacity building training materials for government and non-state actors in Zambia.
6. Support reporting, monitoring and evaluation of MDU projects and contribute to knowledge management through maintaining files of all MDU correspondence, visibility material and awareness raising material.
7. Undertake duty travel, as required, to ensure the smooth implementation of projects within the relevant portfolio.
8. Perform such other duties as maybe assigned.

• Be able to prove their dedication, skills and capacity to work in an international setting as part of a diverse and international team.

• Capacity to draft research, policy and other types of papers; :
• Strong organizational skills and insights into policy development; :
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds; :
• Proficient use of MS Office.


Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
• University degree or diploma in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration:
Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least one year of relevant professional experience. :
Experience:
• Knowledge of, or previous exposure to work in this region will be an asset; :
• Report and/or grant writing of high quality; :
• Project management, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
