Freely in Hope (FIH) equips survivors and advocates to lead in ending the cycle of sexual violence. Based in Kenya and Zambia, Freely in Hope provides holistic education, leadership development and storytelling platforms—allowing survivors to lead with their rewritten stories. Freely in Hope is in search of a Counsellor who is passionate about equipping survivors and advocates to lead in ending the cycle of sexual violence.
This is an hourly contract position based in Lusaka, Zambia.

Responsibilities
1. Counselling

• Provide counselling for FIH Scholars utilising the Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) model and other trauma-informed models as required;
• Work with the Social Worker to organise counselling appointments with FIH Scholars;
• Keep confidential records of appointments and report any relevant findings and recommendations to the FIH Staff;
• Participate in crisis intervention meetings, consult, and provide recommendations with the FIH Team on an as-needed basis;
• Update FIH Scholar case files with appropriate and necessary information.
• 2. Intake & Retreats
• Participate in the new scholars intake interviews and home visits to offer insight into the selection process and make recommendations of the support to be given to each scholar;
• Be present at all scholars retreats to facilitate sessions, assess scholars’ progress and provide psychological support.
• 3. Communication & Trainings
• Facilitate workshops and trainings for FIH Staff and Scholars as requested;
• Provide recommendations for better mental health structures for FIH Staff and Scholars;
• Be available on phone and in person as an expert on conversations related to best practices in ending sexual violence, trauma-informed care for survivors, and crisis intervention.

Qualifications
• You have at least 4+ years experience working as a counsellor preferably offering after care services for survivors of sexual violence.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills. You have experience drafting detailed case work reports and presenting key findings to different stakeholders.
• You have the ability to develop a trusting and supportive relationship with your direct reports, creating a safe space to foster growth.
• You have good crisis intervention skills and the ability to remain calm and handle high levels of stress in crisis situations.

Education
• Degree in Psychology or Counselling from a reputable university.
• Training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
• Prefered additional diplomas, certificates or trainings related to counselling, EMDR, legal advocacy, counselling, community development, gender-based violence, women’s issues, women’s health, leadership development, or education.Freely in Hope
