JOB DETAILS:
Background
The main objective of this Health Systems Strengthening Internship programme is to offer an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP’s work. It is designed to complement technical theoretical-oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of project implementation and management. The intern is therefore expected to provide the necessary administrative support to the unit.
Conditions:
• Interns are considered gratis personnel. Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
• Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. The costs associated with the internship are borne by he nominating institute, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistant to its students; or by the student who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc;
• UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or ill ness or death incurred during internship;
• Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
• The intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan and provide a certificate of good health prior to starting the internship;
• Shortlisted applicants must submit the following documents prior to interview;
• An official letter from the University confirming enrolment in a graduate-level degree programme and specifying the expected graduation date;
• Letter of endorsement from a senior faculty member who has directly supervised the student in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the student’s performance;
• Copy of current school transcript. .

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of the unit Head, the intern will be assigned various programme and administrative tasks. It is expected that at the end of the Internship programme. The intern should be able to demonstrate experience and competency in the following areas:
Project management and support
The intern is expected to develop the following competences and skills in project management and support:
• To be able to draft a concept note.
• How to develop and draft a project document.
• Understand the basics concepts underpinning development and implementation of a project.
• Understand the concepts of monitoring and evaluation and be able to develop a basic monitoring tool.
• Analysis of project reports and providing appropriate feedback to relevant partners.
• Develop skills on how to write project monitoring reports.
• Follow up on project reports from partners.
Administrative support
The intern will be expected to understand the supportive role the administrative function plays in programme support and project implementation. This will include:
• How to develop and maintain an electronic UNDP filing system.
• Organize and coordinate events for the HSS Unit, such as trainings, workshops and meetings.
• How to organize meetings of the unit and draft minutes.
• Develop skills on how to arrange and coordinate meetings and workshops between UNDP and partner organization.
• Understand how to draft briefing notes.
• Facilitation of information sharing between the Project Manager and CO Senior Management.
• How to raise expenditure requisitions (E-Reqs) in Atlas.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
• Candidates should be I final year of studies towards attainment of a university degree in Public Health;
• Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience:
• Candidates are not expected to have any previous work experience as they have just completed their degree programme;
• Good interpersonal skills.
Language Requirements:
• Fluency in oral and written English.
