COUNTRY PROGRAM MISSION:
The overall goal of ARC’s program in Rwanda is to improve the well-being and self-reliance of the displaced refugee population from eastern DRC and Burundi by ensuring the provision of basic services (adequate health care & nutrition, shelter, water, sanitation & hygiene, HIV/AIDS prevention & treatment), improving food security and enabling economic recovery in six refugee camps located in Rwanda.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The SRH will be responsible for providing sexual reproductive health services (SRH) in Youth Friendly services and Girls and Women Opportunity center in Mahama camp. They will be responsible to identify high risk cases and refer them promptly.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take lead and provide guidance in education sessions to Peer Educators and Community female Mentors on the subject on SRH and Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health services respectively.
  • Check punctuality and discipline of ASRH volunteers/Peer educator and Community Female Mentors
  • Conduct group education sessions and individual counseling on sexual reproductive health services including Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health.
  • Providing HIV pre-test and post-test counseling for Youth Voluntary counseling and testing and referral of HIV positive clients to health center for further treatment and management.
  • Consultation and treatment of sexual transmitted Infections according to national guidelines.
  • Maintain Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) standards.
  • Provide family planning services to clients and young adolescents, including counseling, sensitization on available family planning methods, dispensing contraceptives using the medical eligibility criteria (MEC) and follow-up.
  • Maintain confidentiality and manage daily records for clients of Family Planning and other clients benefitting from the services as well as follow up.
  • Seek and discuss cases with Medical Doctor to ensure they are appropriately and holistically managed.
  • Conduct refresher training of peer educators (PE) and community female mentor (CFM) on ASRH.
  • Participate and assist in organizing the sensitization campaign on SRH and ASRH services in the camp.
  • Providing technical support in community health education team in matter of SRH and ASRH services
  • Organize and conduct campaigns related to ASRH
  • Organize community dialogue meeting with partners, religious and community leaders to introduce ASRH services/ Youth friendly corners and mobilize their support
  • Make sure that youth friendly space is functional
  • Be able to present the project progress and data related to the programs during the health and nutrition coordination meeting

    EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • A1 degree in midwifery, preferably a background in nursing
  • 3 years minimum experience in midwifery in Rwanda
  • Registration with the National Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Knowledge of newborn vital signs, family planning methods
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Health standards and protocols for maternal/child health and obstetric health
  • Knowledge of the regional political and social conditions
  • Kinyarwanda, English, and French oral/writing skills, Kiswahili oral skills also preferred
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Experience working in protracted refugee situation and/or previous experience in Rwanda a plus
  • Experience in managing and working with a multicultural staff
  • Strong participatory leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and counsel staff working in a refugee camp environment.
  •  Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly reports of the activities.

KEY BEHAVIORS & ABILITIES:

  • Hold certificates for SRH services including FP and others.
  • Registration with the National Nursing and Midwifery Council

  • Knowledge of the regional political and social conditions
  • Kinyarwanda, English, and French oral/writing skills, Kiswahili oral skills also preferred
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Experience working in protracted refugee situation and/or previous experience in Rwanda a plus

  • Computer knowledge (Microsoft office, MS Word, MS Excel)
  • Ability to motivate and counsel staff working in a refugee camp environment
