Adolescent and Sexual Reproductive Health Officer
JOB SUMMARY:
This is a fulltime position and the holder will oversee HIV programs for adolescents and young people and especially the adolescent girls and young women broadly providing leadership, planning, demand creation, referrals/networking, liaison between prevention and medical, peer support, financial management and reporting. He/She will also work closely with Policy, Advocacy and Marketing teams to identify key advocacy issues and development of suitable communication materials and strategies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide requisite leadership that will ensure successful implementation of interventions for young women and adolescent girls.
  • Providing insight and technical support in the design, implementation and monitoring of program activities
  • Ensure educational and livelihoods focused activities are attuned with young girls’ needs and realities.
  • Identify AGYW role models and ensure their active participation in all aspects of the program.
  • Identification of training needs and capacity building for representatives of Youth on different topics, like GBV, HIV, Reproductive Health, adequate use of social media schemes
  • Scale up of adolescent-friendly services
  • Collection, compilation and analysis of data in support of research aimed at improving the effectiveness of the ASRH programme;
  • Provide leadership in community initiatives that support effective referrals and follows up of adolescent and children between the health facilities and communities
  • Represent the Organization in different collaboration meetings between government and other NGOs interested in youth programs
  • Take a leadership role in identifying field success stories for publications
  • Develop appropriate strategies that will ensure that services and information reach the most vulnerable groups in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Demand creation, mapping and health education through routine mapping, assessments, community dialogues and develop health education/communication mechanisms and materials that will be suitable to meet the information needs of YWAG.
  • Referral, linkages and networking in conjunction with management, spearhead formation of functional partnerships with providers identified to ease and facilitate referral of AGYW who may be in need.
  • Ensure that liaison between prevention and treatment programs is smooth to ensure biomedical services (HIV Testing, STI screening and management, cervical cancer screening, Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision, condoms and Antiretroviral Therapy) are easily made available and accessible to AGYW.
  • Work out cost-effective modalities to ensure that some activities are tied together as a cost-saving mechanism.
  • Establish and support the empowerment of peer support groups in key AHF supported clinics
  • Financial management and accountability to ensure all activities planned for adequately budgeted for and necessary approvals are sought.
  • Ensure all advances for activities related to AGYW to staff or partners and adequately accounted for prior to subsequent releases.
    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Social Administration, Social Sciences (humanities), Guidance and Counseling, Public Health. A background in Nursing is an advantage. Additional training in HIV prevention counseling, Proficient in HIV counseling and, testing, Rights Based approach to programming, Training in Youth Work and psychosocial support for young people are an added advantage
  • A minimum of 4 years working experience in a similar position with a reputable non-government organization
  • Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills, must be good at teamwork and team building and is a problem solver
  • Should have good leadership qualities, Client focused approach and pleasant personality,
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret, write common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies.
  • Good command of up to date knowledge of and practices in HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, care and treatment
  • Flexible, proactive, innovative and able to organize work independently with minimum supervision
    LOCATION: Kigali, but with frequent travel to AHF supported districts and sites
