Looking for Agronomist (to head Agriculture Projects) at Lusaka, Zambia. The incumbent (Zambian/Zimbabwean National), a Master’s Degree holder in Science with Agriculture / Agronomy from reputed university, should have 15+ yrs of experience in handling agriculture projects in African continent especially in Zambia / Zimbabwe.

Nava Bharat Ventures Limited (NBVL) has over four decades of experience in Agri business in India. The Company has been looking for global opportunities to expand its Agri business by leveraging its strengths. NBVL, having presence already in Zambia in mining & power sector at Maamba, through Nava Bharat (Singapore) Pte. Limited, has chosen Zambia as the most suitable location for establishing an Integrated Agriculture and Sugar Project through its local subsidiary Kawambwa Sugar Limited (KSL). Implementation of the investment for the Integrated Sugar initiated in 2018 with land development, infrastructure creation, cane varieties evaluation and multiplication is kept pending considering the glut in the International Sugar Market. Exploring the feasibility of developing diversified profitable agri-projects in the available area of 10,000 ha.

• Purpose of the Position (Head of Agriculture Projects – Zambia) :
o This position is responsible to identify a suitable & successful agro-based project in large scale, execute, manage, and grow a successful commercially based Integrated Agri-Projects in Zambia.
o Provide overall thematic leadership and guidance on agriculture and allied activities to different projects.
o Lead and drive the agricultural projects at Zambia location, guide, and direct leadership team, instrumental in taking right decisions – long term and short-term plans.

Duties & Responsibilities: –
• Providing active technical support to various agriculture projects and allied activities.
• Involve and assist in the implementation of agriculture-related projects and monitoring of the same.
• Preparation and submission of technical feasibility study and reports. Manage field trials, plant physiology, Field visits to project implementation sites.
• Involve and manage the implementation of agriculture-related projects and monitoring of the same.
• Data collection and analysis of various agricultural Interventions studies.
• Providing active, ongoing technical support to various agriculture and allied activities.
• Conduct research and test samples and solve complex agricultural problems.
• Soil sample fields including multiple depth sampling, sampling by geo-reference and multiple site sampling.

Qualifications, Experience and Reporting Structure:
• Master’s Degree in Science in Agriculture / Agronomy from reputed university.
• Should have experience of 15 yrs plus, in the African continent areas namely Zimbabwe, Zambia.
• Position based at Lusaka, Zambia, and this position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Competencies:
• Strong knowledge on local Soil Terrains & Testing, plant extracts, could be medicinal or spices.
• Well versed with Technical Feasibility Studies and Project Proposals.
• Should have strong knowledge in cultivation of various food crops and cultivation practices Zambia, crop needs and efficient Agri farming practices.
• Ability to work outside, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for extended periods.
• Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office and diagnostic scientific software.
• Exceptional active listening and verbal and written communication skills with strong team spirit.
• Strong research, decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong in stake holders and team management.
