About opportunity
The Ihangane Project seeks an Agronomist, reporting to the Director of Community Health to support 7 People Living with HIV/AIDS farming cooperatives supported by The Ihangane Project.
Position description
The Agronomist will be responsible for supervision of farming activities, ground income generating projects as well as daily functionality of 7 farming cooperatives supported by The Ihangane Project by promoting sustainable agriculture and income generation.


Duties &Responsibilities
Supervision of Farming Cooperatives

  • Follow up with functionality of Farming Cooperatives as well as provide advisory support for any conflicts that may raised within farming cooperatives.
  • Put Farming Cooperative policies and procedures into hands-on practices
  • Provide assistance to PLWHA farmers in cooperative year plan and production plan
  • Ensure farmers are completing monthly reports that accurately reflect the ground situation
  • Implement materials including agricultural guiding manual for PLWHA farming activities and sustainable agriculture pocket-guides
  • Implement strategies for expansion of soya and maize production volume, and ensure the supply of high quality grains to the Fortified Porridge Production Unit
  • Address and provide support to cooperative members experiencing socio-economic issues
  • Representation and Internal/External Communication
  • Act as a liaison between Director of Community Health and Farmers in cooperatives
    Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Ensure timely collection and review of data reports. Work with Director of Community Health to analyze data and work with farmers to integrate Continuous Quality Improvement activities based upon the data collected.
    • Monitor adherence to agreements and work with Farming Cooperatives to support their ability to meet contract obligations
    Reporting
    • Report to the Director of Community Health on a daily and monthly basis


Qualifications

  • Certificate (A2) in Agronomy
  • Having a degree/or undertaking university studies would be an asset
  • Minimum two years field experience
  • Minimum two years of working with INGOs/ NGOs
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Understands the benefit of utilizing data to guide decision-making
  •  Computer and technical literacy
  • Able to work well with adult people
  • Familiar with the area and accepting to live in the working area.


Compensation/Benefits
To be determined and subject to 6 month probationary period
