JOB DETAILS:

JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Laboratory Technologist, the position is responsible for collecting, testing, monitoring, analyzing water and reporting data on water, waste and sanitation, using a variety of techniques and methodologies, to assure attainment of quality and safety standards

KEY RESULTS AREAS AND MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collecting, preparing and testing samples for chemical and microbial parameters
• Assessing the Quality of drinking water, analyzing and interpreting statistical data
• Reporting on water quality and pollution issues and take proactive remedial action
• Responsible for equipment operation, calibration, cleaning, and maintenance.
• Ensure that required quality control protocols are computed and adhered to.
• Responding to emergencies when water or waste water quality is compromised
• Review data and request additional testing or rechecks, as needed.
• Liaising with regulatory bodies and customers on water quality and safety issues
• Publicizing advice on avoiding issues on non-compliance with legislation
• Accurately enter all required data into logbooks, and other reporting systems
• Performs any other duties as delegated by superiors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• School Certificate with 5 ‘O’ Levels, with a Credit or Better in English and Mathematics
• Diploma in Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Microbiology or similar science disciplines. A Bachelor of Science (BSc) in any of these disciplines will be an added advantage.
• Experience: One (1+) years’ work experience in a similar role.
• Age Limits: Not more than 35 years old
• Valid Membership to a relevant Professional Body is a Requirement
• Clean Driver’s License or Motorbike Rider’s License will be an added advantage

OTHER COMPETENCIES / SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES:
• Proficiency in handling and maintaining laboratory equipment such as microscopes, autoclaves, incubators, chemical analyzers, cell counters, etcetera.
• Ability to analyze biological samples and chemical samples accurately.
• Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures while conducting laboratory tests.
• Ability to assess the accuracy, validity, and integrity of data generated during testing.
• Excellent communication skills to convey the findings and document results.
• Meticulousness in observing, monitoring, collecting, and recording data.
• Attention to detail and highly developed ICT skills
• Excellence recordkeeping capabilities and effective task management
• Willingness to actively pursue continuing professional development
• Interpersonal skills for liaising with customers, regulatory and health bodies and others
