Our client, Morehouse School of Medicine, is looking for eligible and qualified individuals to fill the position of Associate Clinical Specialist.
COMPANY DESCRIPTION
The Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA and is part of the HBCU Global Health Consortium (GHC). The HBCU GHC consists of four HBCUs: MSM, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Meharry Medical College, and Howard University. The HBCU GHC is funded by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), HIV/AIDS Bureau, Division of Global HIV/AIDS Program.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The overall aim of the MSM project in Zambia is to improve the health outcomes for adults on anti-retroviral treatment (ART). Specifically the MSM program aims to improve continuity of treatment, viral load testing, viral load suppression for clients on anti-retroviral treatment (ART) through: (1) ART clinic workflow redesign, (2) optimizing referral systems for better care coordination, and (3) utilization of technology. The Morehouse program is being implemented in Chilenje, Chawama, Kanyama, and Matero General Hospitals in Lusaka, Zambia.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This is a Lusaka based position and salary will be commensurate with experience. The Associate Clinical Specialist will report to the Zambia-based Associate Program Manager. The Associate Clinical Specialist will provide programmatic support to ensure timely implementation of the program work-plan. This is an entry-level role. Applicants with more than 3 years of professional clinical experience or a doctorate qualification (e.g. MBChB, MD, DO) will not be considered for this role irrespective of years of experience. .
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The tasks listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
• Perform initial assessments on ART clients and present their health status to senior clinicians including clinical officers and physicians
• Support Ministry of Health (MOH) clinic staff with collecting blood samples from ART
• Support MOH clinic staff with coordinating the transport of blood samples for viral load testing
• Support MOH staff with providing enhanced adherence counseling to ART clients
• Enter clinical data into MOH data collection tools including registers and SmartCare after each client encounter
• Enter program performance data into MSM program data collection tools on regularly scheduled intervals
• Contribute to activities to improve ART clinic workflow in facilities where the MSM Zambia program is operating
• Communicate barriers and potential solutions to barriers affecting program implementation to the health facility leadership and Associate Program Manager
• Ensure the safe custody of MSM assets used to support program implementation at health facilities
• Represent the MSM Zambia Program at facility-level meetings as assigned
• Contribute to the development of program progress reports as assignment
• Collaborate with the HBCU GHC in-country leadership and Associate Program Manager to ensure sustained engagement of facility leadership to support program implementation
• Support health facility with using their program data to inform decision-making and resource allocation
• Contribute to the development of program work-plans
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Diploma in Clinical Medicine a minimum of 1 to 3 years clinical experience (experience obtained as part of an education training is acceptable)
Or
• Diploma in Nursing with a minimum of 1 to 3 years clinical experience (experience obtained as part of an education training is acceptable)
Or
• Bachelors’ degree in Clinical Sciences or Nursing with a minimum of 6 months to 3 year experience (experience obtained as part of an education training is acceptable)
• Experience working in a Ministry of Health (MOH) facilities is required
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative is highly desired
• Ability to work with minimal supervision required
• Knowledge of the MOH’ Zambia Consolidated Guidelines for Treatment and Prevention of HIV Infection required
• Experience working in ART Clinics, Outpatient Departments, and Maternal Child Health departments is highly desired, but not required
• Experience providing direct care (including treatment support) and counseling to HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) adult clients is highly preferred
• Experience in presenting adult clients to senior clinicians and physicians is required
• Experience in providing direct care to clients is required
• Demonstrated ability to use computers and tablets and email is required
• Experience in drawing blood samples from adults is required
• Experience in processing blood samples for viral load testing is highly preferred, but not required
• Experience working with SmartCare is preferred, but not required
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills are required
• Demonstrated excellent time-management skills required
• Experience in using teleconference applications is highly preferred, but not required
