Let’s Build Foundation, a global non-profit organization collaborates with the Government of the Republic of Zambia, through Ministry of Education to provide educational infrastructure. Our work is focused on the construction of additional classrooms in government secondary schools and the provision of school furniture. We believe well designed and built classrooms help to increase attendance, improve student outcomes, support better teaching, and reduce student dropouts. Let’s Build is non-religious and has no political affiliation. Our mission is to build classrooms to increase children and youths’ enrolment in secondary education. ROLE PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
Under the overall supervision of the Construction Projects Manager, the Clerk of Works will be responsible for the supervision of classroom blocks and any other associated works in selected Secondary Schools to be constructed by Contractors over a period of 5 months. He/she will be Let’s Build’s representative on site, providing oversight to the contractor’s team. Furthermore, the role holder will be responsible for monitoring compliance with Let’s Build and relevant Government policies by Contractors. He/she is expected to be highly versatile and able to manage multiple tasks.
In the event of an emergency and depending on the work demands, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
SCOPE OF ROLE
Reports directly to: Construction Projects Manager
Dimensions: Works with Let’s Build staff, Contractors, School Management Committees and communities
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Conduct routine inspection and supervision of construction projects whilst ensuring that construction works are in line with international and national quality standards, align with the plans and specifications and are completed in a timely manner.
Checking compliance with designs/drawings, specifications and site instructions
Conduct material testing and approval whenever necessary.
Ensure that the quality and quantity of construction materials used is as per set standards and as prescribed in the plans, detailed specifications, and Bills of Quantities
Collect qualitative and numerical data from sites regarding the construction works and provide the data in a timely manner to all concerned.
Orient the School Management committees on their roles and responsibilities.
Provide management and oversight to Parent-Teacher Committees (PTCs
Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with district partners, all relevant community and school committees and community leaders to ensure that all community related issues are handled professionally.
Participate in meetings with district partners, School Authorities, community leaders, key community committees wherever necessary.
Conducting daily site visits and providing updates to Branch office
Attend and coordinating site meetings
Ensure that all activities are carried out without putting children at risk of abuse, harm, or exploitation.
Ensure that all relevant health and safety procedures are being followed on site.
Comply with relevant Let’s Build policies and procedures.
Ensure communities are compliant with all Let’s Build and Government policies.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in any Construction related field with at least 5 years’ experience from recognized institution/s and at least (5) years’ experience.
- Valid motorbike license and at least 3 years’ experience riding a motorbike on the highway
- Posses Technical knowledge and skills of construction
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- Diploma holder or related in the construction industry with at least (5) years’ experience. Previous experience as a Bricklayer will be added advantage.
- Proven experience in overseeing the construction of schools or similar construction projects.
- Understands the project life cycle
- Familiar with local Building Standards
- Ability to set out buildings
- Demonstrated experience in supervising contractors
- Must demonstrate his/her ability to measure works, read and interpret Bills of Quantities
- Must be attentive to detail
- Result-oriented
- Experience in working with communities in rural areas.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners at community and district levels.
- Willingness to stay and work in difficult remote rural areas
- Proven experience in managing contractor led construction works.
- Experience in working with construction works using various building materials
- Ability to collaborate in a small, proactive team, motivating colleagues and providing support and advice as necessary
- Willingness and ability to change work practices and hours

Bachelor’s degree in architecture Registered with The Zambia Institute of Architects At least five (5) years of experience in the construction industry Proven experience in overseeing the construction of schools or other similar construction projects Proven experience in design using computer aided construction software e.g AutoCAD Proven experience in preparation of Bills of Quantities and material schedules Experience of preparing tender documents and selection of suppliers and contractors Demonstrated experience in managing contractors and suppliers Demonstrated experience in Project Management Experience in working with community led construction procedures. Strong English language communication skills – both verbal and written. Attentive to detail and must be result-oriented Ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, including community, government, and international consultants. The ability to travel extensively within Zambia is required. Willingness to travel to the field and work in a difficult environment on a regular basis Holder of a valid driver’s license
