1. IDENTIFICATION SECTION

Duration: Eleven month (11) Contract, subject to extension depending on funding
Background:
Since October 2019, the Zambia Association of Gyaecologists & Obstetricians (ZAGO) has been implementing a project on advocacy for the prevention of unsafe abortion. The project is called the “Zambia Prevention of Unsafe Abortion Project”. This is a three (3) year multi- country capacity building project. It is funded by International Federation of Gyaecologists & Obstetricians (FIGO). The project is based on the country’s needs assessment on challenges of unsafe abortions. The country needs assessment on unsafe abortion advocacy was conducted in 2018 by KIT on behalf of ZAGO and FIGO. The needs assessment was aimed at understanding ZAGO’s capacity to undertake a safe abortion advocacy project.
2. JOB PURPOSE:
To provide sound advice and services in dealing with substantive matters concerning Public information operations. Develops and implements a creative approach to major communications campaigns and ensures effective design and delivery of information products in accordance with overall objectives and policies of ZAGO. Serves as an effective spokesperson, and forms strong partnerships with relevant parties involved to engender support for and advance the organizational objectives. .
3. KEY RESULT AREA PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (MAIN DUTIES)
Strategy, Planning and Implementation Takes the lead in strategy, planning, development and implementation of projects campaign; works with various partners such as Health Facilities, NGOs, private sector, and affected communities -to implement the projects and incorporate the campaign and themes of FIGO /ZAGO into all relevant events and products across the Country
Media Outreach
Takes the lead in organizing media outreach; arranges all media contacts, press briefings, and interviews; provides taking points and other materials as needed for senior staff; responds to media inquiries quickly and effectively.
Strategic Partnership Develops strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support for and maximize impact of promotional objectives; serves as a spokesperson/principal communications and advocacy liaison to media organizations, governmental bodies, national groups, private sector organizations, educational organizations, international organizations, etc.
Production Coordinates production of a diverse range of information products (including audio/visual communications) in support of the ZAGO programs
Advocacy
Provides advice and expertise to managers, senior officers and other public information staff on a range of advocacy and outreach issues, methods, and approaches; anticipates and resolves communications/ public relations issues/problems.
Communication Drafts communications and advocacy material for ZAGO, including newsletters, reports, promotional materials, and talking points for senior managers.
Public Relations Co-ordinates effectively public relations functions in order to provide information to the public and promote the image of the ZAGO
Evaluation and Networks Evaluates results and impact of communications activities; reports on developments, trends and attitudes regarding the FIGO/ZAGO activities and establishes metrics for gauging impact.
Builds information networks; plans and oversees maintenance of publicly accessible information materials on the health trends; plans and develops outreach activities.

(i) Internal Contacts:
ZAGO Project Team and Management, specialists
(ii) External Contacts: FIGO, Non-Governmental Organizations, Government Ministries, Bureau Chiefs, Editors, Journalists for major news media.
5. RESPONSIBILITIES
(a) Safety and Health of Others:
Ensures adherence to safety and health regulations
(b) Responsibility for ZAGO Resources:
Responsible for all resources in the Organisation
(c) Level of Authority and Decision Making:
Makes Operational and Technical Decisions
(d) Consequence of Error:
Incompetence on the part of the jobholder would lead to disruption of operations and misinformation and adversely affect the image of the ZAGO
6. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
(a) Minimum Secondary Education:
Full Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent
(b) Minimum Professional Qualifications:
• Degree in communication, journalism, public relations, social sciences, international relations, or related field.
• Master’s degree in any of the above fields will be added advantage
A first-level University degree in combination with 4 years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
(c) Minimum Relevant Pre-Job Experience:
• 5 years working experience of which 2 should be in management
• Proven working experience in Public Project Management
• Excellent Client – facing and internal communication skills
• Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
