JOB DETAILS:

WeForest is a fast growing international non-profit association with headquarters in Belgium and legal entities in France, USA, Ethiopia and Zambia. Our aim is to demonstrate, through the restoration of entire regions, that well planned reforestation can be the solution to today’s biggest challenge: global climate change. The organization is promoting Forest Landscape Restoration best practices, creating a movement, engaging the greatest brands and their millions of customers to act positively. Our activities are growing and the organization is urgently looking for an experienced Governance and sustainability training expert to further capacitate its Zambia team.
Zambia programme
WeForest has been active with reforestation in Zambia since 2011, starting in Kitwe and expanding to Luanshya district in a later stage. Currently, two projects are running, one in Luanshya District and one in the Katanino Forest Reserve:
The Luanshya project has worked with over 900 farmers to put more than 2,000 hectares of Miombo woodland under restoration through Assisted Natural Regenration (ANR) on individual farmland. The project is also supporting alternative, forest-friendly value chains and local farmer associations.
The Katanino project, which started in 2019, aims to work with local communities to revive Joint Forest management and support a transition toward a more sustainable and local community based forest management model.
Role
As the Luanshya project is coming to an end, strategies are currently being developed to increase the sustainability of the project and ensure a smooth and progressive phase out in view of handing over responsibilities and activities to local farmer associations. As such, the governance and economic sustainability of the local farmers’ associations constitutes a critical area of focus for the remaining time of the project. To support this, WeForest is looking for a highly experienced and skilled Governance and Sustainability Training expert to (a) undertake a capacity assessment of the local farmers’ associations and WeForest’s team, including a review and update of existing materials; (b) update and improve the project’s sustainability and exit strategy document; (c) provide direct support to the farmers’ associations through coaching; (d) lead on the development of training of trainers materials (curriculum and tools); (e) support the roll-out of the sustainability strategy through the identification and training of community-based “trainers of trainers”. Based on the needs analysis, it is envisaged that the consultant will spend approximately 50% of his/her time with WeForest, and 50% with the associations.
While the Luanshya project is the priority, the consultant is also expected to support the Katanino project, as the materials and tools developed should be usable by both projects.
Terms & Conditions
Start date: As soon as possible
Duration of Contract: Six months with possibility of a short extension, to be considered based on performance and progress made.
Salary: Applicant can submit his/her consultancy fees. A daily consultancy fee of 1,500 ZMW all-inclusive, is used as guideline here.
Location: Predominantly in the Copperbelt, in Luanshya, Ndola, Mpongwe and Masaiti district, with extensive travel to the project area. The applicant has to be willing to reside in remote areas part-time
Benefits: Not applicable
Hours of Work: Full-time, working a minimum of 8 hours per day. Hours will however vary depending on project needs and flexibility is essential.
Reporting line: The consultant will work under the supervision and report to the Luanshya Project Manager. Payment depends upon the weekly submission and approval of daily timesheets by WeForest Zambia. .
