The Civil Service Commission invites applications from suitably qualified Zambian Nationals to fill the vacant position(s) in the Ministry of Defense.
Job Title: Consultant Ophthalmologist

Department: Ophthalmology
Job Purpose
To supervise and undertake the provision of diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions in order to prevent loss of sight and maintain optimal eye status
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Commanding Officer - Ophthalmology and shall be responsible for;
i) Undertaking effectively the diagnosis of eye ailments in order to facilitate treatment
ii) Undertaking effectively the provision of medical counselling in order to address patient concerns and promote the adoption of healthy lifestyles.
iii) Undertaking effectively the referral of patients to local and foreign health institutions in order to facilitate access to further care.
iv) Managing effectively the development and implementation of guidelines and standard protocols in order to ensure standardized delivery of Eye Health Services
v) Managing effectively the prescription of medicines and surgery in order to improve outcomes in Eye Health
vi) Managing effectively performance assessment and quality assurance improvement for Eye Health Services in order to ensure adherence to set standards and improve service delivery.
vii) Managing effectively the development and implementation of ophthalmology capacity building programmes in order to impart appropriate skills and knowledge in practitioners.
viii) Managing periodically, monitoring and evaluation of the provision of Ophthalmological Services in order to facilitate implementation of appropriate interventions.
ix) Managing timely development of individual and department of works plans in order to monitor and evaluate performance
x) Manages timely development of individual and departmental work plans in order to monitor and evaluate performance.
Qualifications
The applicant must have the following requisite qualifications
(a) A Full Grade Twelve (12) Form 5 School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) 'O'Level Credits or its equivalent.
(b) Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Master's Degree in Ophthalmology Valid Practicing Licence
(c) 12 years working experience, 2 of which should be in Ophthalmology

Level of Education: Postgraduate Degree
