APIE Education Manager
A Partner in Education (APIE) is a small organization with a simple mission: to facilitate sustainable, locally-led programmes of teacher training in Rwanda, to ensure that every child has access to inclusive, high-quality education. We are seeking to recruit an Education Manager who will support the development of our pilot project and key partner, Umubano Academy, and who will also be instrumental in helping us to expand our work into the wider Rwandan education community. The Education Manager will work with the Executive Director to develop and deliver nation-wide teacher training and contribute to national-level education policy.
For 50% of their time, the Education Manager will manage the day to day delivery of a new two-year DFID-funded project - Enhancing Quality Instruction in Pre-Primary, Rwanda (EQUIP) - creating and delivering a 10-module teacher training programme on Early Childhood Education. For the remaining 50%, they will contribute to the ongoing development of Umubano Academy, with a particular focus on education for peace, high-quality multilingual language teaching, assessment for learning and leadership professional development. The post-holder will manage two members of staff on the EQUIP Project and report to APlE’s Executive Director. The post is based full-time in the APIE office at Umubano Academy in Kigali, Rwanda.

JOB DESCRIPTION
EQUIP:
• Manage the day-to-day running of EQUIP, supporting the ICT & Data Officer and Administration & Translation Assistant to effectively administer the project and manage the budget;
• Design, pilot and refine the Early Childhood Education professional development modules;
• With support from the Executive Director, take responsibility for the financial management of the project, including maintaining excellent financial records, forecasting, and budgeting;
• Contribute to the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project, working closely with the ICT & Data Officer;
• Work with the Executive Director to prepare reports for DFID and other stakeholders;
• Manage the external communications for the project, including liaising with stakeholders and contributing to APlE’s communications outputs.
Umubano Academy:
• Work closely with the Head Teacher and senior staff at Umubano Academy to plan the professional development of teachers, supporting staff to build capacity and develop provision for students centred on best practice;
• Embody an ethos of holistic education, focusing on valuing all children and supporting them to achieve to the best of their ability;
• Use own practice as a model of outstanding teaching and learning, work with teaching colleagues to create a stimulating environment for learning, and support them through regular observation, reflection, and monitoring;
• Ensure continuity and progression through the Rwandan curriculum, working with colleagues to set clear objectives in line with the school‘s development plan;
• Support the school’s Administration to establish clear targets for achievement and evaluate progress through regular assessment and analysis of data, devising interventions where necessary;
• Co-ordinate the new creative arts for peace programme, which forms part of the peace and values cross-cutting theme in the Rwandan national curriculum, as well as APlE‘s core project of Education for Peace;
• Work with Phase Leaders to continually increase their leadership skills;
• Work with the SEN (Special Educational Needs) support staff to guide and support their roles;
• Liaise with OLT International, and other partners where necessary, to continually enhance SEN provision;
• Support APlE‘s communications strategy by producing engaging content communicating the work of the organization;
• Provide an excellent model of EAL teaching;
• Contribute to the corporate life of the school through effective participation in information collection, reporting; attending meetings etc.;
• Undertake any other professional duties which may reasonably be delegated by the Executive Director.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
• A full primary teaching qualification and a minimum of three years teaching experience;
• Track record of excellent teaching;
• Experience of working in Early Childhood Education;
• Experience in managing projects, including finances and budgets;
• Management experience and proven ability to design and lead training for colleagues;
• Record of own continued professional development;
• Experience of working with SEN students;
• Effective grasp of ICT for learning;
• Ability to analyze data effectively for planning, assessment, and evaluation;
• Excellent communication skills and able to cater to a range of audiences;
• ICT literate;
• Fluency in English;
• Understanding of and commitment to the role of education in promoting peace.
Desirable
• Teaching/Teacher Training experience in Rwanda;
• Experience of working on a DFID-funded project;
• Experience in working with EAL students;
• Proficiency in French and Kinyarwanda.

Interviews will be held at Umubano Academy on 11 February 2019. Candidates will be asked to deliver a short training session to teachers and complete a written task. Overseas candidates or those unable to make it to Kigali on this day will be considered as long as they meet the specifications of the role, in which case initial interviews will be held via Zoom.
