Summary: The U.S. Mission in Kigali, Rwanda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Electrical Lead Technician.
The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (number of hours per week – 40 hours per week)
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of
receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Supervisory Position: No
Duties: The incumbent reports directly to the NEC Superintendent in the Facility Management office. The position holder is employed as an Electrical Lead Technician to accomplish skilled maintenance and repair work at the journeyman electrician level, to International Building Code standards, throughout all facilities on the New Embassy Compound (NEC) to include office buildings, grounds, out buildings, ancillary structures, and residential owned/leased properties.
The incumbent is a lead technician responsible for overseeing the work activities of multi-trade FAC technicians assigned to the NEC; Elect/Gen Tech, Maintenance Man, Welder, carpenter and Mason/Painter. This position is not a rater or direct supervisor. Serves as lead technician overseeing daily work for electrical, welding, carpentry, masonry, and general maintenance.
Qualifications and Evaluations
EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship leading to a Journeyman Level Certificate as an electrical technician is required.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of five (5) years of journey-level experience in the repair and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems, power generation and electrical distribution systems, grounding, and control circuitry is required. Minimum 2 years of this work experience on similar sized equipment configurations and systems with an increased level of complex work requirements is required.
Use and implementation of International Building Code (IBC) standards, building, electrical, mechanical, and fire and life safety codes in the execution of projects is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: Level III (good working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing of English is required
and Level III (good working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing of Kinyarwanda is required.
(This will be tested.)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: A valid driver’s license is required; must have a clean driving record.
Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security
certifications.
