• We from MPower Ventures, a pan-African venture backed start-up in the energy access area (www.mpower.africa), have launched our operations in Africa in 2019. Since then, we have expanded our activities in 7 countries, with 5 local entities in Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Namibia and Zambia. Our products range from small solar lamps to solar home systems with matching appliances such as TVs, fans and refrigerators to large systems for SMEs. Our portfolio has recently been complemented with electric powered vehicles, making us one of the most innovative solar system providers in the african market.
• To increase our footprint across Africa, we are looking for an independent and entrepreneurial Freelance Solar Design Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity in a fascinating and rapidly growing field.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Freelance Solar Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to provide clean, renewable energy to communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. You will be responsible for designing solar power systems that meet the unique needs of our clients. This role will be remote and project-based, offering flexibility and the opportunity to make a real impact in the renewable energy sector.
1) Solar System Design: Create solar system designs tailored to the specific requirements of
residential, commercial, and industrial clients in Sub-Saharan Africa. This includes grid-tied,
off-grid up to 250kWp, and hybrid systems.
2) Site Assessment: Conduct or guide our colleagues on the ground to conduct site assessments
and collect data to optimize solar system performance and ensure compatibility with the local
environment.
3) Technical Documentation: Prepare detailed technical documents, including system layouts,
electrical diagrams, and bill of materials (BoM) to guide the installation and construction team.
4) Compliance: Ensure that all solar system designs adhere to local regulations, industry standards,
and safety guidelines.
5) Energy Modeling: Utilize software tools and perform energy modeling to estimate the energy
production, cost savings, and environmental benefits of proposed solar systems.
6) Material Selection: Recommend suitable solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, and
balance of system components based on project specifications and budget constraints.
7) Documentation: Prepare documentation for clients to first understand their energy needs, offer
technical expertise, and explain the benefits of solar solutions as well as deliver as built
documentation after commissioning.
8) Quality Control: Oversee the quality control process to guarantee the efficient operation and
longevity of solar installations.
9) Remote Support: Provide (remote support) during the installation and commissioning phases,
ensuring that the system aligns with the design.
10) Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies,
and best practices in solar system design.

Your qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or a related field. (not mandatory
if you just know how these things are done, go ahead and apply)
● Proven experience in solar system design and project management in Sub-Saharan Africa.
● Proficiency in solar design software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar tools.
● Knowledge of local regulations and standards related to solar energy in Sub-Saharan Africa.
● Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and safety.
● Ability to work independently and remotely.
● Very good English skills are required, French is a plus.
● Willingness to travel regularly within Sub-Saharan Africa
