JOB DETAILS:
After successfully conducting a land titling pilot project in Lusaka Zambia, MLG has been engaged by Lusaka City Council to lead its land titling operations. The GIS Team Lead, Zambia will support MLG’s efforts in Zambia, expanding upon MLG’s earlier titling project. Applicants for this role will have outstanding GIS, surveying, mapping, and team management skills. The GIS Team Lead, Zambia will report to the GIS and Planning Director, Zambia. .

What You Will Do:
• Manage and lead the GIS Technician team, ensuring that the team produces high-quality deliverables and meets timelines.
• Oversee pre-vectorization of demarcation areas, data corrections, and verification.
• Set, provide and meet schedule for performance metrics
• Spend time in data collection areas to provide direction and constructive feedback to improve processes and increase data quality
• Develop, implement, and manage QA/QC routines and methods to ensure GIS data is complete and accurate
• In collaboration with the GIS and Planning Director, consistently communicate updates in an organized manner to HQ

What You Should Have:
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in geomatics, planning, geography or related field
• 2+ years of experience with land surveying and data collection
• 1-2 years of management experience
• High-level of proficiency in using GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS GeoServer, etc.) required; experience using QGIS preferred.
• Experience working with land administration, land information systems or related areas
• Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
• Experience working for an international company
• Valid driver’s license in Zambia required
• Legal authorization to work in Zambia required
What We Hope You Have:
• Experience with Zambian land administration and surveying requirements
• Knowledge of Nyanja and/or Bemba
• Experience with the use and manipulation of databases and spreadsheets. Experience with SQL and Postgres/PostGIS for querying spatial data
• Experience with programming, APIs, cloud computing environments (Google cloud or AWS). Experience with python scripting for handling and analyzing spatial data (Arcpy. PyQGIS, Gepandas)
