JOB DETAILS:
JOB PURPOSE
This function is responsible for providing leadership to the Retail Credit Risk Department to
ensure efficient and timely credit service, resolving customer complaints and contributing
towards achievement of the objectives of the department and the Bank including the
following;
• Proactively providing prudent and timely decisions on retail lending while managing the bank’s credit risk so as to achieve quality risk asset growth in line with the bank’s strategy and in accordance with the bank’s credit policies, regulatory guidelines and best practice.
• Responsibility for the quality of the retail credit portfolio and management of the entire retail credit cycle.
• Development of tactical strategy and delivery plans, formulating associated practice/s and ensure operational implementation and adoption in terms of credit risk management methodology, practice, governance and delivery objectives.
Under the supervision of the Chief Credit Risk Officer, the following are among the key responsibilities:
• Leading and developing an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices
• Assessing and approving/recommending credit facilities for approval in line with the delegated lending framework.
• Supporting the Chief Credit Risk Officer in establishing and reviewing retail credit risk policies and setting credit risk appetite for the retail portfolio and take full responsibility for the quality of the retail credit portfolio.
• Building a strong risk/service delivery partnership that delivers superior customer experience
• Supporting the business in the development of new credit products, identifying any underlying credit risks and coming up with practical and effective ways to manage the identified risks.
• Ensuring that all retail credit policies and procedures are market competitive and compliant with regulatory requirements
• Ensuring that retail collections and recovery processes are consistent, effective, efficient and best in class.
• Providing leadership, direction, career and succession planning to all retail credit staff.
• Reviewing retail credit policies and processes on a continuous basis in line with sound risk management practices and regulatory requirements
• Maintaining internal control standards, including the timely implementation of audit/risk exceptions and any issues raised by regulators.
• Enforcing efficient turnaround times (TAT) on consumer loan approvals in line with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Overseeing the credit risk management process, including the assessment of loan applications, underwriting decisions, and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
• Any other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Grade 12 Certificate with Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects
• University Degree or equivalent professional qualification. A Master’s Degree is preferred
• Zambia Qualifications Authority (Zaqa) Verification Certificate for Tertiary Qualifications
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant banking experience in the retail lending or credit risk management space
• At least 5 years experience leading a team
• In-depth knowledge of lending principles, practices, and regulations.
• Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making
• Solid understanding of credit risk management principles and experience in making sound underwriting decisions.
• Proficiency in utilizing technology and software applications related to retail lending operations.
• Strong business acumen and financial analysis skills to assess loan profitability and portfolio performance.
• Proficiency in using loan origination systems and other relevant software applications
