• MPower is a pan-African climate and fintech venture that revolutionizes energy access by delivering cleantech products and providing green energy access to end users in developing countries. Based on a B2B model, MPower combines hardware, software and financing solutions.
• Together with our partners, we have already financed and supplied thousands of customers with our solar systems, energy efficient appliances and productive use appliances . Our products range from small solar systems to solar home systems with matching appliances such as TVs, fans and refrigerators to large offgrid and back-up systems for medium income households and SMEs. Our portfolio has recently been complemented with electric powered vehicles, making us one of the most innovative solar system providers in Africa.
• We are present in 7 African countries with 5 established local entities in Zambia, Cameroon, Togo, Ghana and Namibia. To increase our footprint in our core markets and grow our sales we are looking for an independent and entrepreneurial “Head of sales.” The position is based in one of our aforementioned key markets. This is an exciting opportunity in a fascinating and rapidly growing field.
Summary:
• The “Head of Sales” is responsible for sales and revenue development with a particular focus on distribution. S/he will be responsible for establishing, coordinating and growing the distribution business sales channel to ensure the achievement of the commercial objectives. S/he will evaluate sales performances, formulates and reviews corporate commercial medium and long range plans, goals and objectives for specific products and services. As such, the “Head of Sales” will align and support MPower’s local sales team and work closely with the top management. S/he will evaluate existing, develop new sales strategies and execute the plan together with the sales team as the business dictates. Previous experience in sales and business development is required; technical and commercial understanding of solar products is beneficial.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for coordinating, evaluating and growing the distribution sales channel –
in close collaboration with the sales team – to ensure the achievement of the commercial objectives.
• Evaluates sales performances, processes and formulates and reviews – in cooperation with the sales team – corporate commercial medium and long range plans, goals and objectives for specific products.
Collaborates with the marketing team to grow and penetrate key markets.
Reviews and provides persuasive customer presentations to implement product positioning strategies.
Reviews existing sales and distribution policies and tools reflecting the organization’s goals.
In coordination with the local teams, identifies and expresses HR needs.
Provide input on sales incentive structure and key performance indicators to help monitor targets.
Identifies training needs of the sales team and addresses them to top management and HR.
Collaborates with various departments ensuring good cohesion of the overall sales team (e.g. Recommend and initiate inter-team activities or other cross-country initiatives).
Review sales performance by analyzing performance reports.
Qualifications and experience:
• Master Business Administration (MBA), Master in Commerce or Marketing or any higher commercial related diploma is required;
5- 10 years sales or commercial and management experience in B2B sales in a similar industry is required. Understanding of energy and / or solar products is beneficial. As such, prior experience within the solar/renewable Energy industry in Africa is beneficial, but not required.
Good understanding of emerging markets is required.
Experience in managing medium to large organizations with remote team supervision.
Experience with defining and achieving internal metrics to deliver on strategic objectives;
Experience building winning teams and growing them through identification and development of internal and externally recruited talents.
Skills:
• Advanced customer interaction and internal team relationship management skills with Tech-Sales Engineering and Senior Executive levels.
Excellent negotiation and well spoken and presentation skills.
Excellent strategic and business planning skills.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English; a practical knowledge of French is a plus.
Computer Skills (advanced excel, word and powerpoint) required;
Strong business acumen, communication and interpersonal skills;
Team player and eager to learn new tools and roll-up sleeves to get the job done;
Entrepreneurial and creative mindset and critical thinker.
