About the Position
The Lead Course Facilitator position is an academic leadership position that serves to provide support to new and developing instructors as well as to continue to support the growth of best academic practices at Kepler. The Lead Course Facilitator is an exemplary model of Kepler’s core values and works to lead initiatives that support students and the academic vision as a whole, as well as serving/leading additional committees outside of the Kepler academic team. The role includes developing systems of support for developing instructors, creating curriculum, modeling and coaching the use of data to drive instructional decisions, supporting students inside and outside of the classroom, and leading out a separate initiative to help fulfill the mission/vision of Kepler. This role is specific to the Methods of Thinking for Business curriculum and team at Kepler.


Job Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Course Facilitators and Teaching Assistants
  • Instruct non-native English speakers to rapidly improve English fluency through a competency-based, blended learning curriculum
  • Conduct class sessions in a variety of content areas with university students
  • Conduct study groups in a variety of content areas with university students
  • Build courses (curriculum delivery and communication regarding curriculum) through a Learning Management System online
  • Grade competency-based work and provide student feedback in a timely manner (48hour turnaround max)
  • Collaborate with the Director of Academic Partnership to generate Methods of Thinking for Business scope and sequences, lesson plans and another curriculum that supports diverse learners to acquire necessary and relevant skills
  • Modify curriculum for applicability to the context and to best support students
  • Engage in team meetings to collaborate and build quality products for student consumption and use
  • Utilize student data to make informed decisions to guarantee that all students progress through the curriculum
  • Support student success in the Kepler-based curriculum
  • Administer benchmark, unit and formative assessments
  • Provide feedback on the program, curriculum, and students to various stakeholders within the organization in a timely manner
  • Research MOOCs and other content delivery options to incorporate “flipped classroom models”
  • Research and utilize effective online, in-person and blended learning teaching techniques
  • Collaborate with peers to share best practices and innovations from the classroom
  • Conduct optional and mandated office hours through a variety of formats: workshop, 1:1 conference, group supported work time, etc.
  • Share and train other educators in the implementation of online education in a blended learning environment
  • Facilitate various meetings for small teams and/or whole academic team
  • Participate in the Kim Marshall Observation process as outlined by administration
  • Work in collaboration with the academic team to achieve annual academic goals
  • Support Course Facilitators through the Kim Marshall evaluation system as an observer and coach.
  • Plan and facilitate Professional Development for the Academic Team
  • Lead out the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Methods of Thinking for Business curriculum throughout the Kepler Academic Program
  • Collaborate with the Kiziba Academics &Careers Manager to adapt the Methods of Thinking for Business curriculum to the Kiziba model
  • Serve as a model instructor for other Course Facilitators as well as visitors to the Kepler model through an open classroom forum, demo-lessons, or co-teaching with struggling instructors
  • Serve as a lead or contributor to one or more teams outside of academics

Qualifications

  • BA degree or higher
  • Highly motivated with a passion for education
  • 1 year as a full-time Kepler Course Facilitator
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to implement education through a process model of learning, implementing, reflecting, revising and re-implementing
  • Demonstrates leadership through participation, initiative and work ethic within the academic team
  • Conducts himself/herself in a fashion that demonstrates service leadership
  • Demonstrates growth in teaching practices over time
  • Applies learning from personal professional development or Kepler-based professional development in the classroom
  • Has high expectations of him/herself and believes in high expectations for students
  • Has the ability to be creative and innovative in the way that education can be created and delivered to students
  • Is open and willing to give and receive feedback from all stakeholders within the organization including students, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Excellent writing and language skills in English. Preferred fluency in French, Kinyarwanda and/or Swahili
  • Displays the ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal formats
  • Exceeds at building and maintaining relationships, online and off
  • Possesses functional knowledge and/or personal experience with technology: Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, Google Chrome
  • Thrives in a dynamic environment and believes that change leads to progress
  • Comfortable with not having or providing answers to students through an inquiry-based model where the facilitator of the class is not the “keeper” of all knowledge.
