Resonance is currently seeking Livelihoods Manager candidates to propose for an upcoming 5-year USAID-funded Zambia Alternatives to Charcoal project. The purpose of this activity is to promote energy alternatives to charcoal with the goal of reducing deforestation and forest degradation in certain provinces of Zambia. The position is contingent upon contract award.
The Livelihoods Manager will report to the Chief of Party and manage the program through a broad range of technical assistance and capacity development to community-based enterprises, businesses, entrepreneurs, organizations, and/or other stakeholders in charcoal producing areas of Zambia. This position will be responsible for leading the design and execution of the project’s livelihoods strategy focused on providing alternatives to charcoal production in targeted rural areas. The Livelihoods Manager should have a proven track record in effectively managing and directing livelihoods activities, preferably at the community and local levels in the rural context. Livelihood efforts supported/promoted will range across agricultural and non-agricultural sectors. The Livelihoods Manager is expected to have the management qualifications necessary to manage a complex USAID‐funded program.
Job Responsibilities:
• Provide technical leadership and oversight, and integration of livelihoods approaches across APROACH project activities, with expertise including but not limited to the following: livelihoods support, agricultural development, agribusiness, value chain development, non-timber forest products (e.g. honey), ecotourism development, and other forms of rural economic development and conservation enterprise
• Provide technical guidance in design, development, planning, implementation, and capacity-building of activities to enhance rural business and livelihood opportunities in charcoal-producing areas of Zambia
• Improve the local business enabling environment for youth, entrepreneurship, and startups and build community-based business ecosystems in rural charcoal-producing areas of the country
• Support rural businesses, enterprises, and entrepreneurs in the development of business models and plans
• Organize, arrange, and facilitate local meetings, workshops, and other participatory processes focused on livelihoods working with local communities, APROACH staff, and other relevant partners
• Working with project partners and staff, develop investment channels, partnerships, and market connections for targeted stakeholder businesses

Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in degree in agricultural economics, business, agricultural extension, agroforestry, or a relevant field
• Seven (7) years of experience designing and implementing livelihoods
• Experience with on- and off-farm alternative livelihoods and rural income generation
• Experience successfully introducing sustainable livelihoods that reduce impacts on natural resources
• Experience successfully promoting smallholder out-grower schemes
• Demonstrated ability to analyze the impacts of different livelihoods on forest cover
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with USAID, government counterparts at all levels, local organizations, community groups, and other program partners and stakeholders, including with local chiefs and traditional leaders, and local religious leaders.
• Ability to conceptualize, plan, guide, and implement livelihoods and community business strengthening, with demonstrated experience in business modeling and enterprise development.
• Demonstrated ability to working within cross-cultural teams
• Proven ability to meet targets and deadlines for a project of similar scope and size
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated track record of working effectively in a teamwork environment
• Experience in providing technical assistance, including organizing and conducting workshops and trainings
