SCOPE OF WORK
About Health Poverty Action (HPA).
Health Poverty Action - HPA is a British NGO which aims to create a world in which the most vulnerable communities can enjoy their rights to health and wellbeing. They give priority to the most excluded and, in particular, indigenous people and communities affected by conflict and political instability. Health Poverty Action has been operational in Rwanda since 1998 and started its programming with the now highly popular Urunana radio soap opera. Health Poverty Action is currently implementing sexual and reproductive health, youth livelihoods and employment and girl's education projects in rural districts of Southern Province and Kigali suburbs.
Project Description
Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze Project is a USAID Funded project that, over the course of five years from 2016 to 2021, will provide 40, 000 vulnerable youth-34, 000 new youth and 6,000 Akazi Kanoze alumni-with employability skills by scaling up proven successful Akazi Kanoze interventions across at least 23of 30 districts countrywide. The implementation of the Project is led by Education Development Center (EDC) in collaboration with three consortium members Catholic Relief Services (CR8), Connexus and Souktel) and 22 other local implementing partners (lPs) that include Health Poverty Action (HPA). Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze will use a series of inclusive innovations that will invite more youth to participate in Rwanda’s historic transformation, particularly women, youth with disabilities and other marginalized youth. Recognizing the diversity of youth backgrounds and goals, Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze will offer multiple program pathways including, employment preparation;individual and cooperative youth microenterprise start-up; business development for existing microenterprises; and continuation onto additional formal Technical Vocational Education and Training (T\/ET} training. This fiscal year HPA is implementing the Huguka Dukore Akazi Kanoze Project providing employability skills as well as employment and self-employment accompaniment services to 500 youth in Nyaruguru and Kicukiro districts
