JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
The Management Accountant will be responsible for providing financial insight, analysis, and reporting to assist management in making informed business decisions. The role focuses on preparing budgets, forecasts, cost control reports, and performance analyses to support the financial health of Zambia Gold Company Ltd. The Management Accountant will work closely with department heads and senior management to ensure effective financial planning and control.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning & Budgeting:
• Prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts for the company, including detailed analysis and input from various departments.
• Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying and explaining variances.
• Work closely with department heads to ensure budgetary control and provide advice on managing expenses and optimizing resources.
Cost Management & Control:
• Analyze and monitor production costs, identifying cost-saving opportunities and inefficiencies in the mining and processing operations.
• Provide reports on cost structures, including labor, materials, and overhead, to support decision-making and improve profitability.
• Ensure accurate allocation of costs to appropriate projects, departments, or cost centers.
• Implement and monitor cost control mechanisms to ensure alignment with financial objectives.
Management Reporting:
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts, providing analysis of financial performance, profitability, and cash flow.
• Prepare variance analysis reports to highlight key financial metrics, including revenue, operating costs, and capital expenditures.
• Develop and present financial reports to senior management, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Financial Analysis:
• Analyze financial data to support business decision-making, including profitability analysis, project evaluations, and return-on-investment assessments.
• Conduct break-even analysis and other relevant financial models to assess the viability of new projects, expansions, or capital investments.
• Support the finance team in preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Capital Expenditure & Investment Analysis:
• Monitor capital expenditure projects, ensuring they are in line with budgeted costs and timelines.
• Evaluate investment proposals and new project opportunities, providing financial insights on the expected returns, risks, and financial impact.
Inventory & Asset Management:
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate valuation of stock, including mining materials and consumables.
• Maintain fixed asset registers, ensuring accurate recording, valuation, and depreciation of company assets.
• Assist in the annual physical count of inventories and fixed assets.
Compliance & Internal Controls:
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and internal controls, providing recommendations for improvements as needed.
• Liaise with external auditors during annual audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Ensure that financial processes are compliant with Zambian tax regulations and industry-specific financial regulations.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
• Work closely with the operations team to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting of production and operational costs.
• Act as a financial advisor to department heads and management, providing guidance on financial implications of business decisions.
• Liaise with the finance team to ensure smooth financial operations and effective communication between departments.
Qualifications and experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Professional accounting qualification, CA Zambia, ACCA or CIMA.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in management accounting, preferably in the mining, manufacturing, or industrial sector.
• Strong knowledge of Zambian financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
• Valid Membership with Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants

• Strong proficiency in accounting and advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to present financial data clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
