Summary
Date Posted: Tuesday, June 06, 2023 , Base Salary: Not Disclosed
JOB DETAILS:
The Zambia Dairy Transformation Programme (ZDTP) has the objective of sustainably strengthening emerging dairy value chains by increasing the quantity and quality of milk produced by smallholder (and emergent) farmers for commercial sale. The geographic focus of the ZDTP is Copperbelt Province, Central Province, Lusaka Province and Southern Province. The ZDTP Programme Extension is being delivered through four output areas:
Output 1 – Dairy technologies and practices commercialised
Output 2 – Dairy extension activities transferred
Output 3 – Programme outreach and industry engagement expanded
Output 4 - Policy and regulatory framework and wider strategic linkages strengthened
The Market Systems Data Analyst role serves to achieve two objectives.
The role will focus on ensuring ZDTP’s paper-based Real Time Monitoring (RTM) management information system of tracking dairy farmers’ financial performance, now being digitised into Farm 4 Profit, is continued and sustainably taken up by local dairy industry actors. Farm 4 Profit has proven its value to farmers to support improved dairy business practices and potentially prequalification for finance. Farmers are creating and accessing their cost and revenue data, which greatly helps them make informed decisions to increase their profit. The tool has attracted interest from other dairy programmes to adopt and from financial institutions to use its cashflow data for loan products to financially sound farmers and cooperatives. Besides financial institutions, dairy farmer groups, government and donor-funded dairy programmes have expressed interest in promoting and adopting the Farm 4 Profit tool. The key activity will be to build a sustainable model of the tool through local ownership and a self-financing mechanism.
In addition, the role prioritises the design and implementation of a ZDTP End-of-Programme study that outlines lessons learnt, documents and gathers evidence on business models developed by ZDTP, and compiles feedback from the target groups on the impact of the programme. The study will be mostly field-based and includes survey design, data collection, interpretation of results and presentation thereof at the ZDTP End-of-Programme symposium to be held in November 2023 as well as the final activity report due in December 2023.
