Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, the Mine Systems Engineer will lead the mining engineering system design efforts for KoBold’s Mingomba project, supporting the pre-feasibility and feasibility engineering studies. In collaboration with mining engineers you will help to identify, design, and execute all mining engineering planning process optimizations to maximize the safety, feasibility, and value of our future mine. In addition, you will be responsible for the strategy, implementation and execution of mine data management strategies consistent with development plans and in coordination with operations teams. You will also support all modeling work from district to mine scales in support of these goals. You will be responsible for building and fostering a collaborative relationship to support synergies with surrounding operators.
You will join an outstanding team of geoscientists, data scientists, and software engineers. You will be a core part of the project teams, supporting the advancement of the science and practice of exploration. You will support the development of novel data collection and monitoring programs. Working closely with geologists, hydrogeologists, and data scientists you will support construction of physics-based and data-driven models of the hydrogeology of our exploration sites and state-of-the-art water management strategies. A key challenge will be to quantify uncertainties relevant to mining, and to identify efficient means for reducing these uncertainties as the project advances.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Mine Systems Engineer
As a technical lead, you will perform strategic ug mine planning system design and support engineering and geoscience workflows to support infrastructure design ,sequencing & scheduling data interactions. Will work closely with Mine Design and Scheduling Engineers as well as across engineering disciplines and the geosciences.
• Manage the centrally located Mine Data Management (MDM) as the single version of truth. Ensure integration of reporting solutions (PowerBI) and other systems to share critical data. Build dashboards using data from interdisciplinary database software.
• Ensure input data required in mine planning is up to date and available in MDM. Support automatic update of all reference data from the geosciences and other disciplines.
• Develop workflows to help improve mine engineering planning efficiency and productivity. Ensure that the system is set up for continuous improvement.
• Develop workflow for digital approval of plans across the disciplines
• Ensure that the links between documents and design data are in working order and are keeping up with changes in designs or the documents or both.
• Ensure that the system and design environment is properly set up and being used. Raise safety awareness and ensure the design for safety principles are applied to the project and safety critical data.
• Ensure that the system and drafting environment is properly set up and being used.
• Manage access to the mine planning base data by granting appropriate permissions to different groups of users.
• Support software testing and manage deployment of new version of software
• Be the project lead for system upgrade projects or new systems testing. Manage deliverables and timetables for projects with different stakeholders (engineering, technical teams, managers, software vendors, IT teams etc.)
• Train users to use Deswik software and processes
• Liaise with software vendors to communicate company needs and troubleshoot system problems
• Create Standard Operating Procedures, templates, and macros for engineering processes
• Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications and skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline with at least five (5) years of experience in related engineering field as well as experience managing similar systems;
• An extensive technical knowledge of engineering systems, design, applications of engineering processes and materials, and engineering applications of current engineering technologies.
• General knowledge of industry, regulatory standards and design criteria in engineering disciplines.
• Ability to plan, coordinate and organize at an advanced level.
• Knowledge of drawing production and document control methodologies.
• Knowledge of databases and CAD systems.
• An extensive knowledge of administrative practices and strong communication skills across all levels.
• Ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders involved in the project.
• A high degree of understanding of how mining engineering interacts with other engineering disciplines and the geosciences.
• Ability to lead, motivate and inspire others, transfer expertise, and provide a coaching role to others in terms of best practice.
• Ability to handle complex problem-solving tasks, applying appropriate analysis and consideration of high-level technical detail.
