Career Opportunities
University of Lusaka Hospital is seeking a dedicated and skilled medical team to join our Hospital on both Full time and Part time basis in the following fields.

Job Purpose1. Nursing Officer (Full-time)

Coordinating daily administrative duties, including schedules, nursing assignments and patient care.

Responsibilities
• Directs, mentors, and schedules staff, including communicating job expectations and providing input to nursing supervisors on staff performance reviews.
• Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff to implement patient care.
• Provides physical and psychological support for patients, friends, and families.
• Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; and identifying system improvements.
• Identifies patient service requirements by establishing a personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
• Maintains nursing guidelines by making sure that their direct reports adhere to staff policies and procedures.

Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
• 3-5 years’ experience as a staff nurse in a clinical setting, prior supervisory experience will be an added advantage.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse
• Valid General Nursing Council of Zambia Practicing License.

2. Theatre Nurses (Full-time)
As a Theatre Nurse you will work in our Hospital theatre, anesthetic/recovery areas, and you will also be involved with some surgical procedures on wards.

Responsibilities
• Delivering high quality and compassionate patient care.
• Ensuring adherence to standard operating policies and procedures relating to theatre nursing, infection prevention and control.
• Ensuring patients are fully informed about risks and benefits of the operation during the preoperative assessment.
• Providing timely and skilled assistance to the theatre team rotating through roles such as scrub and recovery nurse as required.
• Ensuring preparation of all necessary complex instruments and equipment before surgery commences.
• Being responsible for the provision of surgical instruments and equipment during surgery, and ensuring they are well cleaned and secured after surgery.
• Acting as a link between the surgical team and other parts of the theatre and hospital by maintaining effective communication with the patients, caregivers and the theatre team.
• Offering care and support to patients upon arrival on the post anaesthetic care unit until they recover from the effects of the anaesthesia and/or surgery.
• Assessing the patients to ensure they can be discharged back to the ward.

Qualifications
• Full Grade Twelve Certificate.
• Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Theatre Nursing, fully registered and licensed to practice.
• Must be a qualified Theatre Nurse from a recognized institution.
• A current license to practice nursing in Zambia from the General Nursing Council of Zambia.
• Must have at least 3 — 5 years’ experience

3. Midwives (Full-time)
Job Purpose
Provide medical support and care for patients during pregnancy, Labour, childbirth and postpartum phase.

Responsibilities
• Plan, organise and implement all sexual and reproductive health activities at the facility in liaison with other healthcare professionals.
• Offer full antenatal and postnatal care, including screening tests in the hospital and the community.
• Provide maternal and familial support during preconception, pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum phase.
• Assist in the setting up of a Maternity Department in the new health centre/ hospital.
• Monitor and examine women during and after pregnancy and during labour and delivery.
• Educate and counsel patients on health promotion, disease prevention and family planning.
• Offer support to doctors during complex medical procedures or deliveries.

Qualifications
• Full Grade Twelve Certificate or equivalent.
• Diploma in Nursing and fully licensed and registered to practice nursing in the appropriate jurisdiction.
• A Degree in Nursing is an added advantage.
• Must be a qualified ZRN/ZRM from a recognized institution.
• A current license to practice nursing in Zambia from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ).
• Must have at least 3 — 5 years’ experience.

4. Registered Nurses (Part-time)
Job Purpose
Providing compassionate and quality patient care, educating patients, administering medication and keeping patient records.

Responsibilities
• Deliver high-quality and compassionate patient care in various hospital units.
• Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Educate patients and their families about health conditions and treatment plans.
• Create nursing care plans to assess patient care needs and continued progress based on nursing diagnosis and within scope of practice.
• Participate in the morning ward rounds or weekly ground rounds.
• Assist the medical doctors during clinical procedures, as requested.

Qualifications
• Diploma in Nursing, registered and fully licensed to practice nursing in the appropriate jurisdiction.
• Must be a qualified ZRN/ZRM from a recognized institution.
• A current license to practice nursing in Zambia from the General Nursing Council of Zambia.
• Must have at least 3 — 5 years’ experience

5. Anatomy Laboratory Technician (Full-time)
As an Anatomy Laboratory Technician you will attend to all matters pertaining to the use of the Hospital’s Anatomy Laboratory as well as to ensure that the mortuary records, equipment and contents thereof are well kept and maintained.

Responsibilities
• Assisting the Anatomy lecturing staff.
• Preparing of models, reagents and specimen for Anatomy practical lessons and experiments for students.
• Cleaning and laying out surgical instruments, and laboratory supplies for examination.
• Attending to clients who come to deposit, and claim the remains of their loved ones.
• Assisting in the moving, storing and preserving of human remains, and preparation for post mortem when required.
• Maintaining hygiene by ensuring that the facility is clean, and all equipment is in good working order.
• Keeping proper and detailed records in the facility.

Qualifications
• Full Grade Twelve Certificate
• Prior experience as a Mortuary attendant will be an added advantage.

Key Qualities and skills:
• Good communication skills.
• Good record keeping skills, with an eye for detail.
• Physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy objects.
• Ability to work in a team and adapt to various situations.

6. Medical Laboratory Technologist (Full Time)
Job Purpose
• To conduct laboratory tests.
• To operate and maintain sophisticated instruments and equipment used in the division.
• To be able to properly set up, calibrate, maintain, operate and shut down such instruments.

Responsibilities
• Conducting various medical tests and analyses with precision.
• Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
• Ensuring compliance with quality control and safety standards.
• Recording and reporting test results accurately.
• Collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide patient care.

Qualifications
• A Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Valid HPCZ license to practice in Zambia.

Key Qualities and skills:
• Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

7. Radiology Technologists (Full time)
Job Purpose
To prepare patients and equipment for radiology procedures, perform the tests, and maintain the equipment.

Responsibilities
• Preparing examination rooms for patient examinations.
• Administering radiopharmaceuticals to obtain clear, usable images.
• Positioning patients and equipment, explaining the procedures, and ensuring patients’ comfort.
• Inserting commands and data into the computer to document and specify the scan sequences, and monitoring the video display to adjust the density or contrast.
• Monitoring patients during examinations, ensuring their safety, and following procedures to prevent unnecessary exposure to radiation.
• Producing diagnostic images, reporting important information to the Physician, and updating patients’ records.
• Maintain and troubleshoot radiology equipment.
• Work closely with our medical staff and healthcare teams.

Qualifications
• Full grade 12 Certificate.
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Radiology
• A License to Practice Radiography.

• Good mathematical abilities and technical skills.
• Good organizational, time management, and analytical abilities, and attention to detail.

8. Plumber (Full-time)

Job Purpose
To carry out all plumbing work involving assembling, installation, repair and maintenance of pipes, valves, fittings and fixtures of drainage, heating water supply, gutters and sanitary systems.

Responsibilities
• Studying and analyzing of pipe laying blue prints and sketches to identify plumbing and water supply as well as waste water disposal systems.
• Determining material to be used in assembling, installing and maintaining of pipes, valves, fittings and fixtures of drainage, heating water supply, gutters and sanitary systems.
• Locating and marking of positions of pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
• Repair and maintenance work involving replacing worn out taps, cisterns connections, and basin washers, mending burst pipes and clearing blogged drains.
• Advising on the cost and quality of materials to be bought (If not in stores) so as to determine correct figures of components for the purpose of purchasing in liaison with the Supervisors.
• Responding to plumbing emergency calls as required.
• Work closely with other members of the Maintenance Team.

Qualifications
• Grade 12 Certificate
• A Diploma or Certificate in Plumbing.

• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Good mathematical abilities and technical skills.
• Good organizational, time management, and analytical abilities, and attention to detail.
