Gold has been classified as a strategic mineral of interest by the Government of Zambia and the recent gold occurrences in various parts of the country prompted government to take a keen interest in this sub-sector. As a key first step to participating in the gold sub-sector, ZCCM-IH was mandated by Cabinet to explore and develop the gold sub-sector in order to ensure that the minerals are exploited to the maximum benefit of the state and the people of Zambia.
ZCCM-IH has also identified gold as a strategic mineral resource which is key to driving the company forward in the years to come. It is with this background that ZCCM-IH and the Ministry of Finance (“MOF”) incorporated Zambia Gold Company Limited (“ZGCL”) to spearhead and manage gold mining activities in Zambia.
Zambia Gold Company Limited (ZGCL) is a mining company, focused on gold exploration and production in Zambia and charged with countrywide mandate to drive the formalization and growth in the gold sector. Its core business includes gold exploration, mining, processing, marketing and value addition.

1.0 Technical Officer
LOCATION: Lusaka
REPORTS TO: Manager Trade & Markets
Job Purpose
The Technical Officer is responsible for overseeing the aggregation of gold from various small-scale and artisanal miners and ensuring compliance with the company’s quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The role involves technical oversight of gold collection, conducting quality assessments, ensuring accurate measurements, and maintaining records for the gold aggregation process. The Technical Officer plays a critical role in ensuring transparency and efficiency in gold purchasing and aggregation operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Gold Aggregation & Collection:
• Oversee the collection and aggregation of gold from small-scale and artisanal miners, ensuring compliance with company standards and protocols.
• Coordinate with miners and vendors to ensure proper delivery of gold to the aggregation points, ensuring all gold is accounted for.
• Conduct initial quality inspections and purity tests on gold received to verify its authenticity and ensure it meets required standards.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of gold, safeguarding it from damage, loss, or theft.
Measurement & Quality Control:
• Accurately weigh, measure, and assess the quality of gold upon receipt from miners or vendors.
• Utilize appropriate gold purity testing equipment (e.g., XRF machines) to assess the gold’s quality.

The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating various health conditions, as well as facilitating health education and emergency response services in the mining environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
• Provide high-quality nursing care to employees, including assessing, diagnosing, and treating health conditions.
• Conduct routine health assessments, including physical examinations, medical history evaluations, and vital signs monitoring.

The Metallurgist will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and overseeing the metallurgical processes at Zambia Gold Company Ltd project site to ensure the effective and efficient extraction and recovery of gold. The Metallurgist will monitor process performance, carry out test work, and improve metallurgical practices to maximize production output while minimizing costs and ensuring environmental and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Optimization & Improvement:
• Oversee and monitor gold extraction processes such as milling, leaching, flotation, and smelting to ensure efficiency and high recovery rates.
• Develop, implement, and optimize metallurgical processes to enhance recovery, reduce operational costs, and minimize waste.
• Conduct regular metallurgical test work, analyze results, and recommend process improvements.
• Collaborate with the plant team to resolve any technical issues related to metallurgical operations.

The Assistant Security Officer will assist in ensuring the safety and security of Zambia Gold Company Ltd’s personnel, assets, and facilities. This role involves supporting security operations, assisting with access control, patrolling premises, and responding to security incidents. The Assistant Security Officer will work closely with the Security Officer to enforce security procedures and safeguard the mining site.

Key Responsibilities:
Access Control Support:
• Assist the Security Officer in monitoring and controlling the entry and exit of personnel, vehicles, and materials.
• Verify the identity of employees, contractors, and visitors and ensure they follow the appropriate security procedures.
• Assist in conducting random security checks on individuals and vehicles entering and exiting the site.
• Ensure all visitors and contractors are logged, issued access passes, and briefed on security procedures.
Patrolling & Surveillance:
• Conduct routine patrols of the mining site, processing areas, offices, and storage areas under the direction of the Security Officer.
• Monitor designated areas for suspicious activities, unauthorized personnel, or security breaches.
• Assist in monitoring security cameras (CCTV) and other surveillance equipment to detect potential security threats.
• Report any observed security or safety issues to the Security Officer immediately.
Incident Response & Reporting:

The Shift Boss plays a key role in monitoring crew performance, equipment utilization, and reporting on production activities.

Key Responsibilities:
Shift Management:
• Supervise and manage all mining activities during a shift, ensuring that operations run efficiently and safely.
• Coordinate with mine planning, engineering, and operations teams to ensure mining activities align with daily production targets.

The Driver plays a key role in supporting day-to-day operations by facilitating transportation needs across the company’s sites.

Key Responsibilities:
Driving & Transportation:
• Safely transport employees, visitors, and company materials to and from various destinations, including mining sites, offices, and external appointments.
• Ensure timely pickup and drop-off schedules, maintaining punctuality for all transport duties.
• Assist in transporting supplies, equipment, and documents between the company’s locations and external vendors.
• Provide transportation services for company events, meetings, or emergency situations as required.
Vehicle Maintenance & Cleanliness:

• Maintain confidentiality and discretion, particularly when transporting company officials or sensitive documents.
Support to Logistics & Operations:
• Assist with logistical duties such as the collection and delivery of packages, procurement of supplies, or handling dispatches for company offices and mining sites.
• Support other departments in transportation-related tasks, including ad hoc requests for vehicle usage and emergency trips.
• Coordinate with the Administrative Officer to ensure efficient use of pool vehicles across the company.

Qualifications and experience
• Grade 12 school certificate
• Valid driver’s license Class C with a clean driving record.
• At least 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a corporate or mining environment.
• Familiarity with Zambian road laws, driving regulations, and vehicle safety standards.
• Qualification in vehicle maintenance and basic mechanics a must.

Skill Specifications:
• Excellent driving skills with a strong focus on safety and punctuality.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with company personnel and visitors.
• Ability to read maps, GPS systems, and follow directions accurately.
• Strong attention to detail, especially in maintaining vehicle logs and transport records.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting common issues.
