JOB DETAILS:
St. Columba’s Presbyterian Church, Lusaka Zambia has an immediate vacancy of an Office Assistant.
Background
St. Columba’s Presbyterian Church, Lusaka Zambia was established in 1956. The Church was built and officially opened on 20th December 1959. St. Columba’s is a cosmopolitan Church which accommodates people with diverse culture and backgrounds. Diversity allows for richness, variety and innovation. Preaching of the word of God is done in English.
The Church has a membership of between 250-300 members led by a Session consisting of a Minister and 12 serving Elders.
In order to reach out and serve the community in the field of education, the Church established and owns the St. Columba’s Presbyterian School situated at the Church premises. The School serves as the Children’s Ministry of the Church and the Minister is the Chaplain of the School.
Key Tasks
Under the immediate supervision of the Church Minister (Reverend) and the overall supervision of the Session Clerk, the Office Assistant will provide the following services:
1. Assist the Church Minister and the Session Clerk with the day to day Secretarial activities namely:
• Producing the Sunday Church Bulletin as well as PowerPoint presentations for Hymns and Bible Readings.
• Typing the Preacher’s and Elders Guide for Sunday service as guided by the Minister and ensuring that the documents are free from grammatical, spelling errors and are presentable;
• Typing correspondence and documents as directed by the Minister and the Session Clerk;
• Managing the schedule of meetings.
2. Carry out logistical functions
• Ensuring adequate supply of office requirements including tea/coffee, water and other supplies for the Minister’s office;
• Making travel arrangements for the Minister as may be necessary;
• Managing financial and administrative records
3. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
• Must have a Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate with at least three (3) credits including English and Mathematics;
• Diploma in Business Administration or its equivalent.
• Must have at least 1 year of work experience as an office assistant.
• Must be computer literate with skills in word processing (MS Word) and presentations (MS PowerPoint);
• Knowledge of any accounting package such as pastel, quick books or word dynamics will be an added advantage.

• Must demonstrate a desire to serve;
• Must have proven oral and written communication skills;
• Must demonstrate strong organizing skills.

• Must be a mature and committed Christian;
• Must be sensitive to the needs of the Church;
• Must be self-driven and able to work with minimal supervision.
