JOB DETAILS:
Position Overview:
Fabricates high quality assistive devices under the direction of prosthetist/orthotists and physiotherapists that improve the mobility of children with disability and enable their full participation in society.

Essential Duties:
1. Fabricates a wide variety of assistive devices including crutches, standing frames, walking frames requiring skills in metalwork, woodwork, leather work and tailoring.
2. Prepares and fills prosthetic/orthotic casts aligned according to prosthetist/orthotist instructions
3. Fabricates and assembles prosthetic and orthotic devices according to prosthetist/orthotist instructions.
4. Assembles and fits wheelchairs according to each child’s needs
5. Documents the components and techniques used in the fabrication of a device.
6. Maintains inventory of supplies and materials
7. Communicates with clinicians to ensure that treatment plans are on schedule
8. Evaluates devices at each stage of fabrication to ensure high quality and patient safety
9. Replaces or repairs broken components including straps, padding, lining, rivets etc. as required.
10. Demonstrates ongoing personal and professional development by undertaking relevant trainings including CPD activities as may be organized inside or outside the hospital
11. Adheres to CURE and national/international protocols and documentation standards
12. Performs routine maintenance of tools and equipment and reports any malfunction to the immediate supervisor or appropriate person(s) as soon as possible
13. Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by Supervisor

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Educated to a minimum of Grade 12 level.
2. Previous experience of a workshop or manufacturing environment including the use of hand and power tools and measuring tools.
3. Previous experience of inventory management and stock control.
4. Experience of fabricating assistive devices is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including in English
2. Empathy and compassion for children with disabilities and their families.
3. Ability to handle or process confidential documents or material in an appropriate manner
4. Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and work independently
5. Basic IT skills including use of MS Word and MS Excel.
