About the role:
The Procurement Lead is responsible for managing the sourcing, purchasing, and logistics of construction materials for the 84-unit housing development in Kalumbila. The role involves coordinating with suppliers, negotiating pricing, ensuring timely delivery of materials, and maintaining accurate records of purchases. The Procurement Lead will work closely with the Quantity Surveyor (QS) and Project Manager to ensure cost efficiency and smooth material flow for construction activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Procurement Planning and Sourcing
- Identify and prequalify reliable suppliers for construction materials and equipment.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to secure cost-effective materials.
- Obtain and analyze supplier quotations to ensure the best pricing and quality.
2. Purchasing and Contract Negotiation
- Issue purchase orders and negotiate favorable payment terms.
- Ensure procurement contracts align with project requirements and budget constraints.
- Monitor supplier performance and address any discrepancies or delays.
3. Logistics and Inventory Management
- Coordinate deliveries to the construction site to align with the project timeline.
- Monitor inventory levels and prevent material shortages or over-purchasing.
- Work closely with site teams to track material usage and minimize waste.
4. Budget and Cost Control
- Collaborate with the Quantity Surveyor to ensure procurement stays within budget.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and negotiate bulk discounts where applicable.
- Maintain detailed records of all procurement transactions and expenditures.
5. Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Provide regular reports on procurement status, cost tracking, and supplier performance.
- Maintain clear documentation of purchase orders, contracts, and supplier agreements.
Desired Skills and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management, preferably in construction or real estate development.
- Strong understanding of construction materials and supplier networks in Zambia.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to track budgets and manage cost controls effectively.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation:
- Performance-Based Incentives: Completion bonuses based on project meeting budget and timeline targets.
- Housing Allowance: Provided for the duration of the project in Kalumbila.
- Transport and Site Allowances: Covered for work-related travel.
- Contract Type: Fixed-term contract for the duration of the construction project (with potential for renewal based on performance and future projects).
