POSITION TITLE: ZPA Covid-19 Program Officer
LOCATION: Lusaka, Zambia
REPORTS TO: ZPA Covid-19 Consultant
BACKGROUND
Zambia Paediatric association the apex body of the paediatricians and allied health-workers of Zambia, is committed to ensure Excellence in the Provision of Pediatric and Child Health Services and Care in Zambia. The vision of the association is to achieve excellence in the provision of paediatrics and child health services and care in Zambia. This is achieved by fostering quality medical education to health care professionals dealing with children and promoting research in all aspects of paediatrics and childcare. ZPA has the explicit responsibility of not only ensuring and maintaining professional standards among its members but also of functioning as a torchbearer for all issues relating to the well-being of all children in Zambia Following the World Health Organization declaration of COVID-19 as a public health emergency in early 2020, more than 20 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported. Despite partial lockdown and other mitigation, including the promotion of WHO recommended Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards, Zambia has reported approximately 10 218 cases, 79 deaths (direct) and 187 Covid-19 associated deaths (ZNPHI, 19th August 2019) with exponential increase in daily positive testing yields
JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent will support the ZPA Covid-19 Consultant to implement a Covid-19 family centered grant to provide coordinated and targeted communication response around COVID-19 with the family unit as the main target audience .
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adapt implementation plan
• Oversee budget
• Facilitate drafting of comprehensive family centered Covid-19 communication strategy
• Work with selected schools to implement Covid-19 control plan and provide lessons for scale up/adaptation to relevant bodies
• Support refurbishment of children’s space in selected designated Covid-19 center
• Support procurement of Covid-19 supplies for children in designated spaces
• Ensure Program implementation is progressing as planned and provide supervision on technical aspects of this grant
• Represent ZPA in Covid-19 related meetings at the national level
• Collaborate with the system strengthening teams in assessing schools, discussing any gaps and solutions in line with pediatric Covid-19 and reports on best practices
• Coordinate with consultant, ZPA executive, and partners to ensure synergies for tackling Covid-19 from a family strengthening perspective
• Contribute to the timely and accurate completion of all regular narrative reports for compliance
• Contribute to the compilation of the mid-term and final reports on this grant and lessons learned
• Assist with initial country level pediatric Covid-19 data analysis and feedback to ZPA executive and partners
• Develop Covid-19 web-based content for ZPA website, facebook, twitter and Instagram pages updated on a weekly basis at minimum
MEASURING PROGRESS
The following milestones will serve as progress indicators
1. Communication strategy developed through consensus meetings
2. Evaluate selected schools on safe learning environments during COVID- 19 pandemic
3. Child friendly upgrades done
4. COVID- 19 equipment source and cost identified
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: ZPA Covid-19 Consultant, ZPA Vice president and entire executive including weekly updates and/or as requested by the executive.
External: Line ministries (Health & General Education) Host country government agencies, donor agencies, international and national non-governmental organizations.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. First degree in Arts or Health affiliated field
2. involvement in Covid-19 response not a prerequisite but added advantage
3. Program and administrative experience an added advantage
4. Proficiency in MS Office suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook Express, PowerPoint) and Internet Explorer
5. Good command of spoken and written English.
6. Self-guided, strong organizational and planning skills; Ability to work independently and under pressure
7. Excellent communication, coaching and facilitation skills
8. Excellent analytical skills

ZPA will work with Ministries of Health and Education and therefore be a springboard on which sustainable capacity will be built for the foreseeable future and can be used as part of epidemic preparedness should further input be needed for COVID or any other infectious disease. Intellectual property developed will also outlive not only the cycle of this project but the Covid- 19 pandemic and will serve as an aid to addressing the needs of children
RENUMERATION
This opportunity has been developed as part of ZPA corporate social responsibility towards Covid-19 and towards building capacity building among the membership. ZPA will cover operational expenses
EXPECTED DURATION
3 months with approximately 20 hours per week dedicated to this grant
