Project Summary
Delivering Innovation in Self-Care (DISC) is a 3-year sexual and reproductive health (SRH) program that will support women to assume greater power and control over their SRH by using contraceptive self-care methods like DMPA-SC self-inject (SI). In partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH), healthcare provider networks, and other implementing organizations, DISC will integrate self-care into health systems in selected health facilities of Luapula, Muchinga, Eastern, Southern Central and Northern Provinces of Zambia, bringing care closer to women and amplifying their voice, choice, and urgency.
Position Purpose
The DISC program offer will support the day to day operations and program management functions of the project to ensure smooth implementation of activities for the project to achieve its goals of enhancing family planning services and promoting self-care through rigorous data analysis and evidence-based decision-making. He/ She will coordinate closely with FHN and MCGL leadership at national and Provincial level to align DISC ‘Bolt-On’ activities and leverage resources for operational and cost efficiency.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical (40%)
• To facilitate voluntary and age-appropriate SRH counseling and services with an increased focus on comprehensive information on all available contraceptives and informed choice for Adolescents and women, while strengthening the capacity of providers through training and mentorship.
• Advocate with the national, district, and community-level health institutions to raise awareness about DISC’s role in improving health outcomes among specific sub-populations such as adolescent girls, youth, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding women.
• In collaboration with the Project Lead and Provincial Technical Assistance Leads (PTAL), provide program and technical guidance on coordination of project planning, implementation and monitoring to ensure it delivers on the stated objectives.
Program Management (40%)
• Plan, execute, monitor, and report on DISC activities in line with technical strategies.
• Establish and maintain productive working relationships with MOH counterparts at National and provincial level and other partners.
• Coordination with FHN and MCGL activities to align provincial level activities for operational and cost efficiency
• Prepare program reports.
• Manage team travel plans in compliance with Jhpiego policies and procedures.
• Work with finance officer to prepare monthly cash forecasting.
• Support project in change management as needed for DISC program.
• Ensure team compliance with Jhpiego policies and procedures.
• Support in managing project schedule and cost.
• Conduct routine monitoring of project’s budget and schedule in compliance with Jhpiego’s internal project monitoring systems.
• Coordinate comprehensive project performance review.
• Develop procurement plans in collaboration with the team. Initiate procurement process and liaise with Procurement unit to meet procurement needs of the projects.
• Prepare activity and travel requests for planned activities.
Partnership (20%)
• Advocate with national, district and community-level health institutions to raise awareness about DISC’s role in improving reproductive health outcomes among specific sub-populations such as adolescent girls, youth and women.
• Collaborate and closely coordinate with DISC consortium partners to ensure effective programmatic implementations
• Represent DISC and project progress, achievements and lessons learned to donors, other key stakeholders, and through meetings, conferences, presentations and Technical Working Groups (TWG)
Qualifications
• Master’s in Public Health or related field (health administration, public administration, business administration) with 7 to 8 years’ work experience.
• At least five years of demonstrated technical experience in SRH;
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate with community structures and other Community Based Volunteers.
• Demonstrated ability to lead efficient management processes and systems across a province-wide, decentralized program.
• Proven leadership, strategic thinking, organizational, team-building, and representational skills.
• Strong knowledge of the Zambian health system.
