JOB DETAILS:
Position Summary:
• The Project Director will provide vision, leadership, and direction to ensure the strategic, programmatic, technical, and financial integrity of the project. S/he will be responsible for the overall program leadership, management, and technical direction of staff and project activities. S/he will serve as key liaison with GAVI, government, and local partners. S/he will manage and supervise the work of program personnel and subcontractors/subgrantees and ensure that all program assistance is technically sound and appropriate. S/he oversees program work planning, performance management, and strategic communication. S/he will provide oversight to country leads in each of the four countries of implementation and coordinate project-wide activities.

Principal Responsibilities:
Operational Responsibilities
• 1. Lead and supervise all aspects of program implementation/management, technical, financial, and reporting.
• 2. Oversee program administration and financial management of the project and ensure alignment with Project HOPE and donor guidelines, processes, and standards.
• 3. Supervise Country Leads in the respective countries of implementation.
• 4. Ensure project deliverables are met on time.
• 5. Ensure regular budget monitoring is conducted and program expenditures are on track.
• 6. Put in place financial and operational systems to ensure project is on track.
• 7. Lead development of project budget.

Technical Responsibilities
• 1. Provide overall technical oversight for the project, providing guidance to country and technical leads on activity design and implementation.
• 2. Communicate technical material and project successes to donors, government stakeholders, and others.
• 3. Oversee work planning process and ensure activities are responsive to goals and objectives of the activity.
• 4. Support M&E teams to ensure project reporting structures are in place to track project deliverables.

Strategic Communication
• 1. Represent Project HOPE before relevant government authorities, donors, and others.
• 2. Promote Project HOPE’s efforts to relevant stakeholders.

Minimum Required Skills, Education And Experience:
• At least 10 years of demonstrated experience managing donor-funded projects (i.e. USAID, CDC, GAVI, Global Fund, etc). Previous Chief of Party, Project Director, Deputy Chief of Party, or senior management experience in immunization, EPI, HSS, and/or related field, preferably in at least one of the countries of implementation.
• Leadership skill in designing, managing, and implementing donor-supported programs and ability to manage programmatic and financial reporting requirements, including sub-grants management.
• Demonstrated experience managing consortiums and building capacity of local organizations.
• Experience hiring and supervising personnel.
• Excellent diplomacy skills and ability to sustain professional relationships.
• Previous experience working in Malawi, Zambia, Nigeria, or Haiti, with understanding of local health system and solid relationships with government agencies.
• Experience managing multi-country projects.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills that allow for productive cooperation with duty station employees and regional teams.
• Proficiency in team motivation, including presentations, training, mentoring, and skill transfer.
• Excellent fluency in written and verbal communication
• Able to lead a team or project, manage several priorities, and operate with little guidance or supervision.
• Demonstratable critical and creative thinking skills.

• Expect to travel fifty percent or more of the time.
• Project HOPE employees work in the global health field and may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship”.
