Project Manager
Overview

As part of her/his duties, the Zambia Project Manager is expected to fulfill the following list of responsibilities:
• Serve as HOT’s lead representatives in Zambia, working closely with partner organizations and donors, actively engaging stakeholders in project updates, implementation, and key decisions
• Supported by the Regional Programme Manager, execute the Scope of Work as laid out in the terms of reference for the project
• Organize, provide and facilitate training and workshops to project stakeholders, including local government, partner organizations, and community representatives
• Oversee and participate in the remote and field mapping operations in multiple districts of Zambia
• Supervise local team (currently 2) with day-to-day project implementation, guidance and leadership
• Oversee project finances, operations, and logistics with support from the Regional Programme Manager and HOT Global staff
• Assist in setting up the mapping process, including data review, and provide a motivating and rewarding mapping experience for participants, stakeholders and staff
• Participate in communications (such as blog posts and social media) on project progress and impact
• Compose documentation, reporting, and work plans as requested and necessary
• Actively promote the open data and OpenStreetMap community in Zambia, organizing events, mapathons, supporting students and universities in setting up YouthMappers clubs, and supporting a community of practice
• Assist the Regional Programme Manager in other tasks contributing to a successful completion of the project
• Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications :
• Based within the region, able to travel regularly and authorized to work in Zambia
• At least 5 years of professional experience
• Demonstrable and successful experience in a supervisory role within a field team
• Highly skilled at engaging with various levels of government, local and international NGOs, bringing together key stakeholders to achieve a common goal through mutual agreement
• Appreciable skills and experience in OpenStreetMap (OSM) and associated OSM tools and GIS (QGIS, ArcGIS) and familiarity with the local OpenStreetMap Community
• Ability and desire to work collaboratively and ensure successful project implementation
• Ability to solve practical problems and react quickly and calmly to changing or emergency circumstances, highly adaptable and a quick thinker
• Able to read, write, understand and speak (professional) English
• A good sense of humor and willingness to learn
• Driven, self-motivated and strives for continuous improvement
• Comfortable working in a fully or partially remote work environment, as well as in field conditions

Desirable Qualifications:
• A Masters/certification in project management or related course
• At least 3 years experience working with the local government in Zambia.
• University degree in Geography, GIS, Disaster Risk Management, Urban Planning or equivalent experience; or demonstrated equivalent humanitarian related experience
• Experience working on a HOT field project
• Experience working with/in humanitarian or development agencies/NGOs, including USAID
• Good understanding of field team management policies
• Significant prior experience of leading OpenStreetMap (OSM) community, passionate and motivated about open source and open data
• Passionate about humanitarian and development work demonstrated through prior professional experiences
