JOB DETAILS:
Position: Protection Coordinator
Location: National Office Lusaka
Purpose of the Position
Provide leadership, manage and maintain the delivery of WV Zambia’s child and adult safeguarding strategy especially in emergency response set ups. She/he will ensure compliance with donor requirements. World Vision’s Global Protection and other safeguarding sector approach and organization’s design, monitoring and evaluation cycles. She/he will work with other sectors to strengthen integrated approaches achieving protection outcomes, in ensuring quality monitoring and evaluation on safeguarding programming.
In collaboration with other technical staff, the incumbent will provide technical support and guidance on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Psycho Social Support (PSS), Family Tracing and Reunification (FTR), Community Based Protection, advocacy and other related activities. The role is also responsible for external engagement, strategic partnerships, advocacy for child and adult protection, and spearheading adherence and deepening our commitment to the most vulnerable. Capacity building of WV’s staff and local partners. She/he will serve as the focal point for safeguarding issues for all National Office emergency interventions, working closely with the Child Protection (CP) Focal Point and all other WV Zambia’s sectors and departments to ensure the full implementation of national international safeguarding standards. .

Major Responsibilities
Technical Programme Quality:
• Ensure WV’s responses/programmes adhere to the strategic implementation plan in protection, gender and conflict sensitivity
• Ensuring WV’s responses/programmes adhere to international standards and tools like Do No Harm (DNH), International Humanitarian Law (IHL), safeguarding/Gender Based Violence (GBV) /Child Protection (CP) standards
• Develop high quality prevention and empowerment activities for vulnerable target groups and survivor-centered response service.
• In light of the findings of iterative assessments, provide recommendations to areas/sectors that might need improvement and determine the relevance of expanding operations in new sites and to scale-up interventions.
Program Development:
• Work with (Humanitarian Emergency Affairs) HEA Manager, Grant Acquisition and Management (GAM), Technical Program Managers (TPMs) and (Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning) MEAL in programme development and proposal writing by providing input and reviewing technical information to draft standalone concepts notes/proposals. Key areas to focus on will be CP, GBV, Family Tracing and Reunification (FTR), Psycho Social Support (PSS), Community Based Protection and referral structures.
• Create awareness raising materials and process with beneficiaries.
Capacity Building:
• Built capacity in the community on their rights and supporting staff orientation through coaching and mentoring for increased or enhanced competency to ensure effective implementation.
Representation:
• Coordinate with all pertinent actors and actively participate in relevant cluster and sub working groups meetings if required: strategically engage with donors, and liaise and maintain good working relationship with external partners including health authorities, UN agencies local and international NGOs and other stakeholders supporting the protection sector.
Management and capacity building:
• Manage the protection Officer and any other staff under his/her supervision
• Conduct assessments of staff capacity building gaps in protection, IHL, CP, Conflict sensitivity and gender
• Develop and roll out training of staff and partner staff on key safeguarding themes
• Consolidate and review monthly, quarterly and annual reports for timely submission

Qualifications/Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills, Experience, Competencies and Attributes
• Degree in Policy formulation and analysis, Social Work, Law, Community Development or a related field with minimum 2 years’ experience in relevant field
• Master’s Degree in the relevant field is an added advantage with minimum 2 years’ experience in the relevant field
• Computer literate in MS Office package i.e. word and excel.
• Demonstrate high-level planning, reporting writing and communication skills.
• Must have excellent interpersonal, analytical and decision making skills.
• Ability to manage conflict and negotiation skills.
• Strong networking, liaison and donor engagement skills.
• Training and facilitation skills.
• Solid understanding of Convention on Rights of Children (CRC) and other relevant internal Human Rights standards protecting the rights of children and vulnerable adults.
• Strong understanding of the systems approach to child protection; and community based child protection mechanisms.
• Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and report writing essential.
• Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and functional teams.
• Knowledge and understanding of World Vision operations.
• Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.
• Attend and participate in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.
Working Environment / Conditions:
• Work environment: 80% local travel to project site.
