JOB DETAILS:
PURPOSE OF ROLE
To provide operational support to Manager Quality and Safety in the implementation and maintenance of State Safety Program (SSP) and facilitate for Safety Management System(SMS).
The Aviation Safety Officer assists in the Implementation and coordination of safety programs to ensure compliance with required regulations, procedures and policies with primary focus on aviation. Facilitates identification of safety concerns, promotes reduction of potential safety related risks, and facilitates safety training to ensure implementation of and compliance with safety directives
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Implementation and continuous improvement of the state safety program.
• Develop and maintain a safety management policy
• Establishing and maintaining the safety management system including arrangements for identifying reporting, tracking and correcting safety issues and for the initiation of preventive actions.
• Establishing adequate safety guidelines and publishing them to relevant stakeholders.
• Undertaking safety audits of all units and corporate aspects of safety management.
• Facilitation for CAA industry interface.
• Identifying training needs for SMS and SSP.
• Overseeing the performance of Safety Management activities and providing advice on potential improvements to Safety performance
• Reviewing compliance with Safety management policies, plan, system a procedures and regulatory arrangement and standard; ensuring Safety issues are reported.
• Organize and schedule regular safety committees quarterly or as required or risk analysis meeting.
RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Full Form V/Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) ‘O’ Levels with credit or better, including Mathematics and English.
• Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Aviation field relevant to the execution of duties
• Qualification in Aviation Safety Management Systems or State Safety Programs.
• Member of a relevant recognised professional body
• Minimum of One-year experience in Aviation Safety Management systems or State Safety Programs.

• Ability to draft and assist in the development of technical documents required.
• High Computer literacy.
• Able to write analytical and technical reports
• Able to communicate effectively in English
• Good analytical skills
• High professional conduct and integrity
• Thorough knowledge and clear understanding of the role and objectives of the Authority
