We are seeking a Senior Communications Officer who will support the development of and lead execution of strategic communications plans and activities that encompass the PATH Malaria portfolio. This includes translating evidence generated from projects into communications pieces, packaged appropriately based on target audience, and shared through strategic channels; bolstering relationships and partnerships with external stakeholders to enhance visibility and positioning; and articulating MNTD’s and PATH Malaria’s story and enhancing overall messaging of our unique capabilities and capacities.
This person will report to the Deputy Director of MNTD and will be a member of the MNTD leadership team. The Senior Communications Officer will be responsible to:

Responsibilities:
• Lead the design and implementation of malaria strategic communications and external engagement plans and activities for a $100M+ global portfolio and build visibility for PATH among target audiences in the US and around the world.
• Develop, implement, and oversee a broad portfolio of communications assets and deliverables, events, activities, budgets, and reporting in support of PATH’s malaria strategy and global engagement goals.
• Create and support publication of creative and compelling communications materials and content, including monthly newsletters, fact sheets, web content and articles/blogs, press releases, talking points, routine donor reporting, strategic documents, scientific publications, policy briefs, case studies and reports, and social media content.
• Work with project teams to identify successes, synthesize information, and translate into visually and narratively compelling communications materials for external audiences, including donors and high-level stakeholders. Strengthen ability of malaria staff to tell these stories.
• Lead media and external communications relationships for PATH Malaria and ensure that all media and external communications messages and activities are in line with PATH communication policies; review content to ensure it is on-brand, consistent in style, quality and tone of voice, and in compliance with branding, strategy, and marketing policies and requirements.
• Lead the collection, interpretation, and analysis of communications and advocacy metrics; use metrics to proactively inform prioritization of activities for self and team.
• Serve as malaria communications focal point to ensure effective coordination and collaboration with other PATH teams, programs, and divisions.
• Maintain a record of all communication collateral produced and track inventory status of event materials, including talking points, slide decks, agendas, invitations, key learnings, blogs, etc.
• Supervise communications staff on a large US President’s Malaria Initiative-funded project.
• Serve as the team’s communications focal point for international conferences; support in planning events at international conferences as needed.
• Ensure communications activities and materials are in compliance with diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.

Required skills and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in public health, international development, communications, or a related field, with a minimum of 7 years working in public health communications and/or advocacy fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Four or more years of experience in leading and managing communications strategies and activities on global public health programs with an emphasis on malaria program communications strongly preferred.
• Four or more years of experience developing digital communications, including social media, web content, website maintenance, knowledge management platforms, etc. preferred.
• Proven leadership skills and demonstrated success managing communications and external engagement activities through pressure of deadlines, unpredictability, and multiple priorities.
• Excellent English writing and editing skills and a demonstrated capacity to synthesize and translate sophisticated health, scientific, and development issues into compelling persuasive writing.
• Experience creating and disseminating versatile communications and advocacy products for global, regional, and national audiences, including for partners, policymakers, implementers, governments, and funders.
• Experience providing communications training and capacity building of colleagues; experience working in cross-cultural settings preferred.
• Strong interpersonal communication, presentation skills, and relationship-building skills demonstrating a client-centered approach to opportunities.
• Strong design skills including experience with Adobe suite, document layout and PowerPoint slides/presentations.
• Ability to work with flexibility, entrepreneurship, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort.
