Job 1: Senior Manager Tax
Job Mission
The employee will be responsible for the company’s tax compliance, tax planning and accounting for income tax, preparation of returns and to ensure regulations and processes are adhered to..
Job Responsibilities
• Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of system of robust controls, procedures and policies
• Responsible for monitoring compliance to tax laws and regulations
• Responsible for monitoring compliance to tax policies
• Review and implement recommendations to policies
• Calculation and submission of all tax related returns
• Overseeing provision / collating information to RRA queries
• Proactive engagement with RRA on tax matters affecting MTN
• Responsible for overseeing and managing all tax related audits
• Documentation of all processes and ensuring that the relevant controls have been implemented
• Monthly calculation and review of detailed tax computations in accordance with tax legislation
• Deferred Tax calculations
• Review of monthly tax journals in ERP
• Review of monthly tax disclosure in accordance with tax legislation, in the financial statements and reporting packs
• Monthly review and filing of direct and indirect taxes
• Ensure accuracy, validity and completeness of all tax related payments
• Review of tax schedules for submission to RRA
• Ensure monthly reconciliation and clearing of GL accounts
• Review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
• Performing monthly tax reasonability, analysis and explanation for variances e.g. VAT analysis, effective tax rate, analysis of tax rate reconciliation
• Guidance on transactional tax treatment including reviewing contracts
• Assistance with implementation of processes and monitoring plan
Quarterly, Interim and Year end activities
• Leading preparation of tax pack for Group and Board reporting
• Preparation of disclosure for accounting packs and Annual Financial Statements
• Review of tax returns
• Review of provisional tax and payment
• Interaction with external auditors and audit queries
• Interaction with RRA officials.
General
• Driving the team to ensure accuracy and quality in all deliverables
• Consider & understand IFRS implications and impact on tax computations
• Assist in business planning processes by providing tax inputs to the forecasting process
• Working knowledge of the Tax Legislations
Experience / Skills
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in a similar role
• Sound, detailed knowledge and experience in IFRS and Taxation Regulations
• Knowledge of financial accounting packages
• Hyperion Financial Management / Sage X3
• Advanced excel skills
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Accounting, Finance or Business Studies
• Certified Accountant (CPA/ACCA)
Experience / Skills
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in a similar role
• Sound, detailed knowledge and experience in IFRS and Taxation Regulations
• Knowledge of financial accounting packages
• Hyperion Financial Management / Sage X3
• Advanced excel skills
