Videography and photography services for the WASH’n’soul Hygiene Campaign

1.0 Background
The Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) Zambia is implementing the second phase of the WASH’n’soul (Wns) Project in partnership with Viva con Aqua and soulbottles.The project seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of a holistic approach to implement national goal for basic services of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) by rolling out the School Based Sanitation approach in 10 schools in peri-urban areas of Lusaka. Specific objectives include:

  • Strengthen institutional capacities for sustainable management and operations of school WASH services and infrastructure at school level,
  • Improve WASH infrastructure including on-site wastewater treatment solutions (DEWATS) and good Operations and Maintenance (O&M) at school level,
  • Promote good health and hygiene practices at school level,
  • Results and ‘good practice’ examples from project contribute to improved holistic WASH in School interventions, orientated by results and “good practice” examples from the project.

In line with the third objective, the Wns Project will be carrying out a hygiene campaign as part of the global commemoration and promotion of good health and hygiene practices in schools to ensure a clean and safe learning environment. The proposed “WASH’n’soul Hygiene Campaign” seeks to raise awareness and promote positive WASH behaviour by conveying key messages led by industry players, partners, learners and residents in Lusaka to be supported under the WASH’n’soul Project. The primary objective of this campaign is to promote public health and wellbeing, particularly in community and school settings. Through this initiative, we aim to:
– Raise awareness about the importance of hygiene practices
– Encourage behavioural change towards healthier habits
– Support infrastructure development and policy formulation
By achieving these goals, the campaign will contribute to the creation of healthier communities and improved quality of life for all individuals.

2.0 Purpose of the consultancy
In line with the above, the Wns project seeks a qualified company or individual to provide expert videography and photography services for the development of a hygiene campaign material.

Scope of Work

The company and/or individual will be required to undertake the following:

  • Interview and take short video footage of participants who will be selected to be part of the campaign (an estimated number of 12 people will be interviewed).
  • Take high quality HD photographs of the participants (to be used for the campaign on social media handles)
  • Capture high quality audios for each of the participants to be used to create the campaign jingle(s).

The consultant will work with the BORDA Zambia team to develop the various products within stipulated budgets and within set deadlines. The BORDA Zambia team will communicate digital content creation days with at least a notice period of 2 days and expect the consultant to avail themselves for key dates. In case of unavailability the photographer will alert BORDA Zambia with a notice period no less than 2 days. A high level of participation will be key to the delivery of the expectations.

Deliverables
a. WASH’n’soul Campaign Video

  • 90 to 120 seconds max innovatively pieced together campaign video
  • 12 individual 30sec campaign videos

b. Photographs

  • At least 5 High quality photos of each participant (60max) that can be re-produced in print, multimedia, and online formats. These could include publications, flyers, posters, banners, films, presentations, websites, etc.

c. Audios

  • 12 high quality audios of the interviews
  • 1 campaign audio jingle – 90sec max

d. Consent forms
The consultant/ company shall be required to submit consent forms for all persons who are captured. These forms will be provided by the Project team. Consent forms for children will need to be signed by either a parent or guardian. No photographs shall be taken of children without prior to a parent/ guardian signing a consent form.

2. Guidelines for photographs/ videos to be captured and produced.
The videographer/ photographer shall recognize the project’s target group as dignified humans, not objects, in information, publicity and advertising activities. This includes but is not limited to making sure that all persons involved, if being photographed, are being made aware of the purpose and further use of the images. Consent shall be a vital part of the marketing activities. All individuals being photographed and/or interviewed shall be informed on the intended use of the images and/or quotes at any given time.

The videographer/ photographer shall pay special attention not to capture dehumanising images/ videos of the project target group that evoke feelings of pity by the viewer. The goal of all materials and/ or products should be a feeling of solidarity and should be equal.

The general picture language of the project is:

Positive images (joy, happiness)

  • Happy people
  • Connection between visitors and local communities of the project area (dancing, talking, eating, drinking water, or laughing together)
  • Vitality and dynamics
  • Bright colours and colourful pictures
  • Respect for the human dignity of the people being portrayed.
  • Mood impressions of the surrounding.

The videographer/ photographer shall always ensure the person(s) they are taking pictures of are comfortable with the situation and with being photographed and have signed a consent form (to be provided by the project team and will form part of deliverables. Before taking pictures of children, ensure their parents or legal guardians are around and they agree on taking pictures, and have signed a consent form on behalf of the children whose picture will be taken.

3. Guidelines for submission of all products:
a. Photographs
Photographs and images shall be delivered in digital format unless hard copies are requested. Digital images should be taken at a minimum of 5000-pixel shortest side and 300dpi (full HD or 4k) and in the following formats Photographs and images should be delivered in electronic format including raw files (.jpg, .png, .tif,. raw).

b. Videos
Film shall be delivered in different formats, including 16:9 (landscape), and 9:16 (portrait). Videos should be delivered in electronic format (in mpeg, mp4, mov).

4. Duration
The consultancy will be undertaken over a period of 21 days and will be completed after all deliverables have been submitted to and approved by BORDA Zambia. The period for this consultancy is 10 days.

5. Proposal Submission
Interested and qualified individuals/companies are invited to submit their proposals which includes the technical and financial proposal that should include the following:

  • An understanding of the requirements
  • Team composition
  • Detailed reference lists stating scope and scale of similar assignments.
  • Sample works: videos, photographs of similar work – links
  • Financial proposal
