1.0 BACKGROUND
Zambia Civic Education Association (ZCEA) is a non-governmental not-for-profit organization that promotes and protects children’s rights through advocacy and civic education. Established in 1993, ZCEA works to promote and protect children’s rights in line with the basic principles and standards contained in the international and regional human rights instruments. ZCEA’s vision is a society in which all people enjoy fundamental human rights, justice and human dignity prevails and the mission of promoting and protecting children’s rights through advocacy and civic education for children’s well-being.
In partnership with KNH, ZCEA is implementing the “Participation First, Children’s Voices Matter” to support the government of the Republic of Zambia through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services to Strengthen child-led reporting and advocacy of their rights to Charter and Treaty Human rights bodies at national, regional, and international levels. The aim of the project is to promote child-friendly platforms such as Child Rights Clubs, School Councils, Children’s Parliament, and dialogue sessions with state and non-state actors to enable children to communicate their views on deprived or violated rights, seek solutions from the state actors and monitor solution delivery at school and community level. The project’s overall goal is to show the concrete benefits for the boys and girls are initial approaches for better access to social services and improved service delivery.
2.0 PURPOSE
ZCEA under the Participation First, Children’s Voices Matter Project is looking for a consultant to train Trainer of Trainers (ToTs) in reporting procedures and write alternative reports.
The overall objective of this assignment is to strengthen child-led reporting and advocacy of their rights to Charter and Treaty Human rights bodies at national, regional, and international levels.
3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
Reporting to the Executive Director and working under the guidance of the Programmes Manager, the consultant is expected to train Trainer of Trainers (ToTs) in reporting procedures and write alternative reports. The training will be a three-day training on reporting procedures and alternative report writing and will also cover child safety and child protection. The training will take place on 24th -26th July 2024 at a conference Centre (TBA) in Kabwe District, Central Province. The consultant will have 6 consultancy days (2 days for preparation, 3 days for conducting the training, 1 day for reporting).
Specifically, the consultant will train the Trainer of Trainers in the following areas:
1. Universal Periodic Report (UPR)
2. African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC)
3. United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
4. Child Safety and Child Protection
