The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federally owned international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. GIZ has worked in Rwanda for over 30 years. The primary objectives between the Government of Rwanda and the Federal Republic of Germany are poverty reduction and promotion of sustainable development. To achieve these objectives, GIZ Rwanda is active in the sectors of Decentralization and Good Governance, Economic Development and Employment Promotion and Energy.

GIZ is a partner of the Hanga Ahazaza Initiative funded by the Mastercard Foundation to implement a number of capacity development activities in the vocational education & training aspects of the hospitality & tourism sector. The activities include strengthening workplace learning at H&T (Hospitality and Tourism) companies and introducing elements of dual cooperative training in the H&T sector in alignment with the three pillars of the project: youth skills and capacity development; industry and institutional capacity development, as well as to support the growth and development of industry Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. The project started in February 2018 and runs until January 2021

GIZ Rwanda is searching candidate for the position of Trainer of Trainers & Curriculum Development Specialist in Tourism to support its activities within the MasterCard Foundation Hanga Ahazaza Initiative.

Responsibilities

As a Trainer of Trainers and curriculum development specialist in Tourism you will be expected to support the implementation of a series of project outputs under the supervision of the Team Leader in the key area of tourism (tour operating, tour guiding, event management, tourism destination management, Community Based Tourism/ cultural tourism development, eco-tourism development product diversification, etc.) The Trainer of Trainers & Curriculum Development Specialist performs the following tasks:

Tasks

  • Reviewing and revising of existing and development of new occupational profiles and curricula within the tourism sector in coordination with the responsible Rwandan authorities.
  • Technical support to the development and piloting of updated/new training courses at IPRCs (Integrated Polytechnic Regional Colleges) and TVET partner schools.
  • Development and implementation of technical tourism specific training of trainers modules/courses and support implementation.
  • Contributing to the implementation of recognition of prior learning in the tourism sector.
  • Coaching of (master) trainers while on-the-job.
  • Capacity building for the Rwandan Teacher Training Institute/ IPRCs to be capacitated for delivering the relevant ToT (Trainer of Trainers ) within Hospitality.
  • Supporting M&E of project activities, outputs, and outcomes in the key area curriculum update and development and training of trainers.
  • Providing technical advice on TVET quality assurance in the tourism sector
  • Contributing to reporting, monitoring and evaluation and communication at a project level.

Required qualifications, competencies and experience
Qualifications

  • Higher Education/ University degree in tourism and/or education, development or related fields.
    Professional experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience in designing and implementing trainings within the tourism sector.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the Hospitality and Tourism sector

Other knowledge, additional competencies

  • Proven command of English. Good knowledge of French is preferred.
  • Good cross-cultural skills and communication skills at all levels, both written and spoken.
  • Good analytical web-research and data collection skills
