The position is open to citizens of KAZA TFCA Member Countries, ie Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is based in Kasane Botswana, and the position is for 3-year term with possibility of an extension, subject to performance.
Main Purpose of the Job
The office bearer will ensure that KAZA TFCA Secretariat and Partner States are strategic, coherent, and compelling in their engagement of various audiences including communities, and other stakeholders about the KAZA TFCA projects, and programmes. The Communications and Marketing Officer will report to and work under the administrative supervision of the Programme Manager.
Key Performance Areas
- Lead the update; review, implementation and monitoring of the KAZA TFCA’s various communication related strategies and plans including:
Communication and Advocacy Strategy
Marketing and communication plan
Tourism and brand marketing strategy
- Ensure the website remains up to date, offering an archive for stakeholders of approved reports, media articles, scientific literature and other approved documents associated with the KAZA TFCA.
- Lead and coordinate the development, delivery, and monitoring of all communications on various platforms to highlight developments in the KAZA TFCA.
- Compile and maintain high-quality footage and photo library as well as coordinate with partners for inclusion of relevant imagery/footage of KAZA work in their communication products and vice versa.
- Identify and maintain key relationships with media institutions and expand opportunities for earned media.
- Facilitate and organize field visits and participation in relevant KAZA activities for stakeholders and/or external media coverage.
- Facilitate, coordinate and participate in marketing events regionally and internationally as may be required.
- Provide leadership on annual planning, monitoring, and the evaluation of communication activities.
- Manage and nurture internal relationships between the five KAZA Partner States on KAZA related communication matters.
- Develop effective audience-specific tailored messages and find innovative ways to strengthen KAZA TFCA’s engagement with relevant audiences.
- Produce timely, relevant, and quality communication products that support conservation and development efforts in KAZA by Partner States and stakeholders.
- Use the communication products and services to support KAZA’s M&E efforts particularly in demonstrating impacts.
- Develop clear communications channels and implement a implement a multi- media strategy for KAZA TFCA which will result in a strong and positive presence across media channels.
- Prepare and coordinate the production of publications, brochures, clips and other materials for the promotion of KAZA TFCA.
- Work closely with implementing partners, the Project Management Unit and other projects in the landscape to make their activities visible and known to stakeholders.
- Ensure all KAZA TFCA activities are adequately reported across KAZA TFCA Secretariat’s communication channels.
Competencies
- Develop communication materialsExcellent written and verbal communication skills in English and or Portuguese
- Ability to operate in teams and in a flexible manner
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, media, or journalism.
- Qualifications in the fields of, tourism, environment, political science, international relations and other relevant fields will be an added advantage.
- Bachelor’s or equivalent in combination with ten (10) years’ relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent).
Experience
- At least 7 years of solid professional experience in communications and marketing or public relations or related fields.
