Job Description
Nutritionist, RwandaNOTE: This position is contingent upon donor funding.
PATH is seeking a Nutritionist for a USAID-funded nutrition activity, Orora Wihaze.
Hiring for this position is contingent upon successful award of the project and final USAID approval of the candidate.
The Nutritionist will be responsible for the overall development implementation of the nutrition activities relevant to this project, specifically: increasing demand for animal-source food (ASF) consumption among women of reproductive age and children 6-23 months. The Nutritionist will provide technical support on implementation to achieve project goals and will work with the monitoring and evaluation team to achieve project targets.
Required Experience
Responsibilities:
• Ensure the smooth, efficient and effective start-up and ongoing implementation of the nutrition components of the project including linkages with other project components.
• Ensure development of detailed implementation plans; collection of appropriate baseline, mid line, end line, and monitoring data, as needed; clear process and impact indicators; and effective project monitoring and evaluation procedures to ensure accountability and make improvements in these target areas.
• Contribute to timely and accurate donor reporting.
• Provide sect oral leadership for all nutrition activities relevant to this project. Manage relevant field staff.
• Seek to continuously improve programs, initiate new project implementation strategies as needed, and plan for expansion of project impact, as appropriate.
• In partnership with the other key staff, establish and maintain good relationships with project co-implementer; government ministries and departments; NGOs working in the area and other key stakeholders. Attend coordination meetings as appropriate. Ensure that activities are coordinated with relevant stakeholders, including communities.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Master’s degree or equivalent training in nutrition science or dietetics with focus on diet formulation for women, infants and children;
• Five (5) years of progressive professional experience working as a member of a development team with responsibility for design and leadership of nutrition sensitive agriculture programs focused on reducing malnutrition by improving the diets of women and children in rural poor households;
• Experience leading nutrition improvement programs in Rwanda or a country with a similar rural socio-economic setting or in nutrition research in a Rwandan university is highly desirable; and
• Demonstrated successful experience collaborating across programs and strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to productively interact with a wide range and levels of organizations (government, private sector, other development project teams, NGOs, etc.), especially able to establish and sustain positive professional relationships with host country government counterparts.
• Demonstrated progressive experience with increasing responsibility focused in integrated programming of nutrition, particularly with respect to broad social behavior change (SBC), particularly supporting families to modify established behaviors.
• Experience working with nutrition-sensitive agriculture and animal-source food (ASF) commodities.
• Demonstrated experience in mainstreaming gender issues into interventions.
• Experience implementing at district and community levels.
• Extensive experience working in Africa, preferably Rwanda.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
