JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
The Animal Nutritionist will promote a better understanding of the effect of diet on the health, wellbeing and productivity of animals. Provide well researched advice and information on animal nutrition and design and evaluate the diets of the animals in question. Be involved in the production of food for animals and give advice on issues related to feeding them.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:
• Provide advice on nutrition to farmers, other animal owners, veterinarians and government bodies
• Study animal nutrition and metabolism, analyzing feed ingredients, and formulating diets.
• Planning for weekly farm visits to maintain relationships with clients
• Interpreting forage analysis
• Closely work with clients to formulate diets that meet their requirements/objectives
• Analyzing nutritional disorders
• Maintaining awareness of technical and scientific developments.
• Evaluate the chemical and nutritional value of feeds, feed supplements, grass and forage for commercial animals and pets
• Formulate diets and rations to maximise growth, reproduction, health and performance
• Research the effectiveness of dietary regimes
• Rationalise animal feed manufacturing techniques
• Expand existing ranges of animal food products and develop new one
• Work closely with the Commercial department in the sales and marketing of Vet/ Animal products and services. Support commercial teams in producing and launching new products
• Carry out sales and marketing strategies following the launch of a new product
• Balance growing consumer interest in quality with the need to develop competitive agricultural systems
• Maintain expertise in nutritional trends and keep up to date with regulatory changes
• Use software to formulate diets, conduct research and generate reports
• Investigate nutritional disorders and the safe storage of feeds.

Primary Areas of Accountability:
Qualifications and Experience
• Degree in Nutrition, Animal/Veterinary Science, Medical Sciences, Agriculture, Or Dietetics.
• Must have a minimum of 3-5 years as a Vet/Animal Nutritionist
• Proven working knowledge of nutrition and its impact on animals
• Experience working with a variety of species in the animal nutrition field
• Ability to understand basic animal metabolic processes
• Knowledge of animal nutritional requirements
• Ability to develop and implement animal nutrition programs
• Ability to interact with and advise pet owners and livestock producers
• Knowledge of animal nutrition products
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to write reports and keep good records
• Must have a clean driving licence
