School of Public Health
The University of Zambia, School of Public Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health will be Conducting a Formative Assessment of HIV, gender-based violence, and sexual and reproductive health status among adolescent girls and young women in Zambia. The aim of the study is to collect baseline HIV, GBV, and sexual and reproductive health data at the district level to inform the design of interventions targeting AGYW aged 10-24 years in 20 selected districts of Zambia.
The school now seeks applications from eligible and AVAILABLE Zambians to participant in the formative assessment.
Laboratory Scientist - (60 Positions)
Job Scope:
The University of Zambia, School of Public Health (UNZA/SOPH) seeks to recruit 60 highly qualified, self-motivated lab scientist with experience in conducting HIV and Syphilis tests. The laboratory scientist will conduct household-based HIV and Syphilis testing among adolescents and young women aged 10-24 years while maintaining high ethical standards.
Reports to: The Supervisor and team lead
Required Qualifications/Experience:
• Minimum of Diploma in lab science;
• At least two years’ experience in testing and handling blood samples
• Certificate in HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing
• Certificate in Protection of Human Research Participants
• Undergraduate degree in lab science will be an added advantage
• Previous experience in HIV/AIDS programs/survey will be an added advantage
• Experience in working with adolescents and young people on sexual and reproductive health services is an added advantage
• Knowledge of and practical experience in HIV community-based research and ethical requirements.
• Ability to speak and read at least one local language (Silozi, Chitonga, Ichibemba, Chinyanja, Lunda, Luvale, and Kikaonde)
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Must be a resident of the district and familiar with the local community
• MUST display the ability to create rapport with children and adolescents.
• Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Ready to work in some hard-to-reach data collection sites
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct HIV and Syphilis tests among adolescents and young women aged 10-24 years in 20 selected districts of Zambia.
• Correctly handle, label and store blood samples for transportation
• Must adhere to all HIV Standard Operating Procedures
• Refer participants to appropriate HIV prevention and treatment services
• Ensure confidentiality of test results is maintained.

Kabwe, Chisamba, Mkushi, Chililabombwe, Ndola, Kalulushi, Petauke, Nyimba, Mwense, Chembe, Chongwe, Chinsali, Mungwi, Kasama, Mwinilunga, Sinazongwe, Mazabuka, Kalomo, Limulunga, Mongu (Within Zambia).
