Background
Blessed to Bless is a non-denominational organisation that provides quality Christian education for Zambian school children. We target under-privileged and orphaned children. The Ipalo Christian School in Kasompe, Chingola was opened in 2013. It has grown to more than 250 students in grades 1 to 9 (future plans include Grades 10-12), as well as providing adult skills training and literacy classes for parents and guardians in the local community. It is supported by Blessed to Bless Incorporated (trading as Zambia’s Child), a charity based in Sydney, Australia.
Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful team in an expanding school. Blessed to Bless looks for committed Christians who are passionate about their faith with strong professional backgrounds. Reporting to the School Principal the successful candidate will enjoy a wide range of responsibilities including financial transactions, management reporting and budgeting, statutory returns, internal controls and procedures.
The role also has a strong reporting relationship with the Australian management committee. Over time we see the role developing to a Finance Manager level through taking on more of the functions currently performed in Australia.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
• Accounting – maintain online accounting system, monthly cash book transactions, reconciliations, Chart of Accounts maintenance, accurate allocation of expenses and revenue
• Internal controls – cash management, payments policies and procedures, authorisation, data security, compliance review
• Payroll – monthly payroll, employee payslips, statutory return submissions, leave reporting
• Financial reporting – annual accounts, facilitate audits
• Management reporting – monthly and year-to-date analysis, cost centre reporting, variance analysis, cashflow projections
• Budgeting – including key financial assumptions, student and staff projections, tertiary student projections
• Statutory and tax – all local and provincial returns, act as the responsible officer for all government departments liaison
• Asset management – maintain fixed asset register, depreciation journals, R&M oversight
• Administration – provide general support to the School Principal, maintain and update policy and procedures documents.
• Future developments – in time the role will assume increased responsibilities from Australia including capital projects reporting, funding projections, cost quotations, due diligence, accounting system enhancements.
Requirements
• Qualified accountant (University degree or diploma preferred) with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience and registered with ZICAS
• Outgoing and confident, attentive to deadlines
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written
• Computer literate with significant experience using Excel
• Self-starter and able to work unsupervised
• Enjoys a hands-on role with strong attention to detail
• Experience with online accounting systems would be preferred
• Experience working in a school would be beneficial
• Honesty, integrity and transparency are key attributes of the role.
