Background
• John Snow Health Limited (JSH), a public health organization dedicated to improving the provision of public health services in Zambia and the region, is recruiting for an Advisor – Communications and Knowledge Management for the USAID-funded Controlling HIV Epidemic for Key and Underserved Populations (CHEKUP II). CHEKUP II aims to address the needs of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and those most at risk of acquiring HIV and contribute to HIV mitigation and epidemic control. In addition, the program seeks to improve the health outcomes of priority populations in the highest HIV-burden provinces of Zambia.

1. Role’s Purpose
• The Advisor – Communications and Knowledge Management is a full-time position and will develop and execute the Activity’s communications and knowledge management strategy. S/he will promptly generate, compile, and disseminate program data and information to program stakeholders and pay close attention to audience preferences for receiving information. The Advisor – Communications and Knowledge Management will work closely with other team members to document and disseminate successes and lessons learned and develop activities and products to distribute information effectively. They will be responsible for creating a multi-channel dissemination strategy using the latest information technology, when appropriate, to reach key stakeholders at the national and international levels. This role will report to the Director, Strategic Information and be based in Lusaka.

2. Tasks and Responsibilities
• Designing and coordinating an efficient knowledge management strategy, ensuring all required documentation and publications are stored and tracked in an e-filing database.
• Tracks, literature and analyzes information on topics/issues related to CHEKUP II Activity;
• Gather effective practices and lessons learned, assist in the standardization of processes and procedures and the development of tools and dissemination;
• Drive and coordinate the entire process of reporting. Working closely with the senior leadership team and key Activity staff to compile, write, and disseminate reports for the donor, including quarterly and annual reports, and success stories, in a timely and accurate manner.
• Develop and keep updated CHEKUP II facts and figures and partner intelligence library with relevant content around CHEKUP II ’s key themes;
• In collaboration with key program staff, develop and execute an internal and external communications and Knowledge management strategy, which includes audience segmentation, key messages, and a robust monitoring and evaluation component;
• Coordinate with key program staff and USAID to determine goals, targets, and program needs (both internal and external) of the communications strategy;
• Advise the senior leadership team on all aspects of the program’s communications efforts, ensuring the program is taking advantage of critical communications opportunities and speaking with one voice when communicating externally;
• Work with key program staff to compile, write, and disseminate program quarterly and annual reports for the donor. Coordinate the entire process of developing and completing these reports;
• Lead and manage the production cycle for communications products, from scripting to finalization.
• Provide quality assurance to ensure all program-produced public communications and materials are high quality, meet the relevant requirements and policies, and are branded correctly, according to the stipulated branding strategy and marking plan.
• Lead the creative communications input into Activity-wide activities and events; working with key Activity staff to develop and produce key messages, branded materials, concept notes, planning documents, event production and final reports.
• Originate and oversee creative communications content for the donor, as well as efficiently responding to requests. Organize, produce, package, and disseminate Activity information in a timely manner; ranging from video, radio, print to social media.
• Lead the Activity’s participation in global recognition days and conferences, planning coverage and supporting teams with submissions, to best promote the Activity’s achievements.
• Produce high quality visualization infographics that that help communicate performance of different aspects of the Activity.
• Develop, update, and maintain the CHEKUP II content on the JSH website ensuring a well-designed, well-structured, easy to navigate and high quality written and visual content that caters to a wide range of users, both inside the CHEKUP II and beyond;
• Design, develop and enhance a CHEKUP II strategy for social media engagement;
• Advise on good practices for CHEKUP II social media use;
• Organize, produce, package, and disseminate program information (print, video, and electronic) promptly to key audiences
• Manage consultants and any other staff to help implement the communications strategy in the areas of web design, media outreach, photography, videography, and publication design and layout;

3. Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors:
• Minimum Degree in Communications, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field; Master’s Degree in related filed added advantage;
• Six years of experience working in a communications and knowledge management role in international development, public health, nonprofit, or corporate settings;
• Proven ability to work with web-based and social media platforms;
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English;
• Ability to develop, write, and edit technical content for both print publications and the web
• Demonstrated managerial and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines;
• Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with program team members, donors, and other cooperating agencies;
• Big picture thinker with strong team-building and organizational skills preferred;
• Prior work history with USAID-funded Activities or Projects is preferred
