Job Purpose
The Ambulance Driver is responsible for providing timely and efficient transportation of injured or ill employees to medical facilities. This role involves responding to emergency situations, ensuring the ambulance is fully equipped and operational, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to facilitate effective emergency medical care. The Ambulance Driver plays a crucial role in the overall health and safety management of Zambia Gold Company Ltd.
Key Responsibilities:
Emergency Response:
• Respond promptly to emergency calls, ensuring safe and efficient transportation of patients to the nearest medical facility.
• Operate the ambulance vehicle in accordance with traffic laws and safety regulations, prioritizing patient safety and care during transit.
• Assist emergency medical personnel in the assessment and stabilization of patients during transportation.
Vehicle Maintenance & Readiness:
• Ensure the ambulance is properly maintained, equipped, and stocked with necessary medical supplies and equipment before each shift.
• Conduct daily inspections of the ambulance, including checking fluid levels, tires, lights, and medical equipment to ensure operational readiness.
• Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel immediately.
Documentation & Communication:
• Maintain accurate records of patient transports, including patient condition, time of transport, and destination.
• Communicate effectively with emergency medical personnel and healthcare providers to relay pertinent patient information during transfers.
• Collaborate with mediccal and emergency response team to ensure proper protocols are followed during emergency situations.
Health & Safety Compliance:
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and emergency response protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
• Participate in emergency drills and training programs to enhance emergency response skills and preparedness.
• Stay updated on first aid practices and emergency response procedures relevant to the mining environment.
Public Relations & Professionalism:
• Represent Zambia Gold Company Ltd in a professional manner, ensuring courteous and compassionate interactions with patients and their families.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to ethical standards in handling sensitive situations.
Qualifications and experience
• Grade 12 school certificate
• Certifications in emergency medical services or first aid or Basic Firefighters Certification or Basic Life Support or Advanced Life Support.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; a defensive driving certification is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an ambulance driver or in a similar role, preferably in a mining or industrial environment.
• Familiarity with emergency medical protocols and procedures is a plus.
Skill Specifications:
• Strong driving skills and the ability to operate emergency vehicles safely under various conditions.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with patients and healthcare providers.
• Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations and make quick decisions.
• Good knowledge of local roads, routes, and medical facilities in the area.
• Basic knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques.
