Job description:
Job title: Artisan, Auto Body Repair
Site: Kansanshi Mining Plc
Department: Smelter
Section: Light Vehicle Workshops
Position reports to: Supervisor
Grade: 10
Direct reports: None
Purpose
To provide skills and knowledge in order to move and or remove and fit plant equipment on request of the end-user to ensure plant availability is kept high as possible. The successful candidate will follow all safety procedures on a continual basis for as long as the workload dictates
Key Responsibilities
The holder of this position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Carry out planned maintenance jobs as MMS Standard and work order completion
• Determine specific parts or pieces of a vehicle that needs to be repaired or replaced
• Provide an estimate to the customer or to the Supervisor with accurate information regarding the work that will be required to restore a vehicle i.e. listing each part that must be repaired or replaced, along with the amount of time that it will take to complete the task
• Remove damaged parts of the vehicle and replace them with repaired or new parts without damaging surrounding area.
• Hammer out or patch dents, dimples, and other minor body damage
• Grind, sand, buff, and prime refurbished and repaired surfaces
• Realigns car frames and chassis to repair structural damage
• Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical window-and-seat-operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders
• Mix polyester resins and hardeners to be used in restoring damaged areas
• Install and weatherproof windows and windshields
• Fit and weld replacement parts into place, using wrenches and welding equipment, and grind down welds to smooth them, using power grinders and other tools.
• Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning after maintenance
• Other duties as instructed by the Supervisor
Qualifications
• Minimum of Grade 12
• Craft Certificate from recognized institution
• A member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
Experience
• A minimum of 3 years relevant experience as Auto Body Repair
